Yup and I bet they try and drop clarksons witty one liners that will fail. Top Gear should not be replicated, especially by those they have selected to host.

D-Day will be 29 September. After watching the add on SBS I'm actually condfident it will be a good show. Will probably set a record for a tv show premiere on SBS!

The advantage of the Aussie version though, is aussie cars being reviewed. I'd be interested in watching those cars that don't get tested on the UK version (Holden/HSV, Ford/FPV mostly). Just means i'll only need to watch a few episodes every few years (whenever a new model is released )

the aussie hsv's got tested in top gear uk, but as the trv or whatever they are in the uk and got a realy good rap by the top gear guys, killed some of the big euro cars from what i remember, it should be the writers of wheels and motor magazine, they do some good articles and tests, but see what its like, not going to judge it yet, wait till it gets a few episodes in, once the nervous episodes are out of the way and they settle into it.

It's going to be interesting to see how it goes, if they try and replicate the UK show entirely it's not going to work but I guess it will take a few episodes to see if these 3 have the chemistry that Clarkson, Hammond and May have that makes the original what it is, especially with the challenges

Problem is not many people have seen the early seassons of Top Gear. Hell a lot of people dont even realise that James May hasn't always been on the show. In the beginning there wassnt as much "banter" or "chemestry" as there is now (and has been the last few seasons). It was plain and simply a car show.

The problem the new foreign "franchise" versions of the show (Australia included) are going to have trouble getting over, is they are marketed on the basis of a show that has taken many many years to get where it is...

theyve been showing the early episodes on sbs lately. just a few weeks ago they showed the episode where they introduced james may. the show is probably going to fail simply because of the negative attitudes everyone already has. noones willing to give it a chance. they just think its going to be a copy of the original in every way, which noone knows yet for sure
