i just got a letter in the mail from the epa stating that my exhuast is too loud and i have to go get it tested.

now my question is currently ive got a 2.5inch catback with only one centre muffler so yes it is loud but would it pass if i got a 3inch catback with a hotdog or something to queit it down a bit?

but the 3 inch would have an extra muffler. mine passed with a twin 2 1/4 system on it with 2 centre mufflers and a rear muffler with twin tips. thats a little bigger than a 3 inch single system though

no, cops have been doing it lately.


go down to your exhaust shop, and get them to fit a standard exhaust back on. this will cost cheaper then getting another exhaust made up. then go get tested and pass, then put your old one back on.

happend to my neighbour a few weeks back. a lady up the road called the cops and said he did a burnout outside her house... a bout a week later he got a letter in the mail saying to go to Frankston cop shop and get his exhaust tested.. so he had to go out and buy new bits n pieces for it. Took it in and cops just checked his tyres and he was off again.

i wanna get more power out of the car so its a good reason to upgrade to a 3inch but just wondering if it will pass with extra mufflers on?

also the letter says it was a member of the police force that spotted me and decided the car was excessively loud and theres a list of places where i have to go get it tested

Yeah this is the reason why ive got my old exhuast sitting under the garage. Do something like airstrike suggest or see if you can go to the wreckers and salvage a peice of **** exhuast that will make do for the noise test.

might have to do the restrictor plate thing when i go for a rwc actually. cant seem to find anyone with a spare IRS standard exhaust

well lol... rang up a couple of places and yeh they wont do a 3inch as it wont pass even with hotdogs/mufflers and they wont even do twin systems as they reckon it will be overkill even if i plan on making lots more power and one bloke said he has had heaps of cars come in making over 2oorwkw with just a 2.5inch system but i dont know what to believe lol.

also had the original place where i got the exhuast put on say they can get rid of the notice for $250 and it sounds tempting but the wife wont allow it lol

that sux.....next they'll start charging to get a canary taken off the windscreen at vicroads.....does the epa notice work the same way in that u have to have the notice removed within a certain time otherwise u can't drive the car?

I had a canary removed once at closing time on the last day possible and 6 months later copped a $500 fine for driving an unregistered car...copper said it didn't matter, on their system it was saying the canary hadn't been removed.

I remeber getting one off the VN, and there was a booking and inspection fee, about 80 or 90 bux all up from memory. What made it worse was the car cost nothing to fix the canary, caus their was nothing wrong it....An unfair canary, but meh what can you do.

yeh got a due date of 17th october and if not done by then car will be unregistered and says a maximum fine of $6607
