I have noticed that a lot of members of the forum have detailed descriptions of their cars' modifications at the end of each post.
Why?
What is the purpose of telling us all that you have had a MAFless tune, that your car sits on KSSL's, wears 19's, is fully spooled, produces 400rwkw or whatever? Do other members of the forum really give a stuff?
I'm not trying to promote an argument here, I'm just wondering why you bother having all that crap at the end of your posts. It reeks of "wanker"!
Perhaps it's because of my age that such information is of no interest to me, but is it of interest to anybody else either?
Sorry guys, but it just seems like pointless boasting.

Clever, but it doesn't answer my question.
Well a signatuire is just to add a few lines about whatever in regards to the forum, i did have a picture of my car in mine but that no longer works, Now i just offer a link to my ride thread, it also differs depending on what the forum is concerned with. on my forum i have an image i made about my onloine alias and also other information.
But in short a signature is just a little area where everyone can express themselves on a forum and tell others about them. granted you may not be interested in what others have to say about themselves or their car but others may be interested. I also have a Jeremy Clarkson quote in my signature which allows others to understand what i like and my humour.
If someone is talking about their dynamic ride control or their variable torque split transmission then obviously their very boring or seeking for attention. you're not forced to read it and you may be able to disable seeing signatures in your user controls if you look (might be wrong here, not sure on vBulleting functions)
Edit: you can.

Why don't we just kill off all sigs then?..
I didn't even complain about it when i was on 16k dial up.
To the question, I think it's to gather interest with a pic some mods and a link to there car.

Its what were interested in and what were proud of so people show it off, some of it can be a big wank factor..
If this was a bike club, we would have our bikes info on our sigs...etc etc
Taking the points raised so far, I can appreciate that owners are proud of their cars. Hell, I've been a Holden man since 1970 and have been extremely proud of a few of them. One even made Hot Rod Magazine in 1975 for a three page feature. I believe that pictures far better convey the message than heaps of words. Yes, it is a car forum, that had occurred to me, but I just think that spelling it all out, feature by feature, instead of just having the link to "My Ride", makes little sense and comes across as a wank.
To Reaper and TroyRulz, I understand your points. The small details provided in your individual signatures certainly weren't what I had in mind, but dijm8's is precisely the sort of thing I was referring to. He has the link to photos (and its a nice looking VX), so why bother with all the details in the sig?
Because they can?
I fail to see what the issue is really, if you don't like it, don't read the sigs, simple.

If you are going to do it, could you at least limit the number of lines that you are going to use. Spread it out across 3 or 4 instead of taking up 20 lines to do it. (dijm8 as an example)

IF I WAS HELPFUL TOO YOU CLICK MY SCALES
"Girls are like domain names, all the good ones are taken."
lol mine wud be alot longer then that...but ther is a limit of 500 characters![]()
the sigs dont bother me at all...if it bothers you that much dont look hehe![]()
If you dont like poeples sig's, turn them off in usercp, not that hard really.

I don't make my ride threads, so a link to my car domain is the only other way people can see the pics and details.
You'll be suprised how many people PMed me asking about the car, which stopped once i put the links in my sig (well, still have had a few haha)

Like I said, I just think they are a wank, but I don't feel any need to doctor the system to eliminate them.
Those sigs are great, they give people looking to jack cars a good list of whats in the car before they pinch it![]()
People are always going to be proud of the cars they have(especially on car forums) and they want ot show what they have/got done to their cars. It also may give extra credit to people that have done things to their cars over people that drive a stocker and dribble s#$% about things they don't know/understand, but people have to decide that on their own.
Its all about expression.
i agree with you, there is a lot of c0ck spankery in sigs on this forum
ffs we have a 1 line response and 20 lines of sig wankery
i frequent many forums and majority have a limit on the sig size and often limits on images in the sigs to keep back on the topic of discussion and save on bandwidth
as mentioned above i have unticked the show sigs box , makes reading the forum a sh1tload better
