Hi guys,
Am thinking of getting foxtel mainly for the movie channels but was wondering whether you think it's worth it? Any of you have it or had it and thought it wasn't worth it?
Thanks,
Adam

Movie channels are a waste imo. Can always source any movie online BEFORE it's shown on Foxtel.
The benefit of Foxtel is the sports channels and educational channels (disco, natgeo etc) if you ask me.
With the amount of CRAP on FTA TV, Foxtel is worth it. Especially IQ. Set a whole bunch of stuff to record ahead of time and when there's nothing worth watching anywhere else, you have something to watch on the IQ box.
I dont watch much TV at all - I dont even have a wide screen or digital TV set.
But I do scab the Nascar tapes of my brother that has Austar.
If I did get the pay TV it would be for the sports (for me) and all the nature/sience programs for the wife.

and 3 Dangerous non ABS VN's
I'd steer clear of the movie channels, waste of money IMO. For the amount of use you get out of it, you can hire 15 movies a month for the same price you pay, and get movies you want.
Sports and the discovery channel are pretty much all I watch on foxtel, and I couldn't live without it now.
It really depends on your own situation and what you like to watch. I think mine costs around $90 per month and I average about 1.5 hours a day so it's about $2 per hour. My gf would probably watch another hour at different times so maybe a little less. I find the news and business channels to be very good.
It can be expensive but then again, per hour - where else are you going to get enternatinment for less?

worth it if you get IQ and can record movies etc. get a hd burner as well then u can have bulk movie without a disc
no longer a hoon by association - the commodore is gone
My in laws have foxtel so whenever we go there I tend to try catch the Discovery channel. Shows like Overhaulin and American Hot Road are awesome but I just can't justify the cost of paying for it ourselves. I love my footy but I prefer listening to most of the games on the radio while I'm doing other things. If there's nothing worthwhile watching on free to air then I don't bother watching anything.
Car theives should be treated just like horse theives and cattle rustlers in the days of the wild west... Hang them!
Don't be stupid. Power isn't measured by the size of your tacho

Foxtel fills in a lot of gaps left by free to air. Kids channels - we have a two year old granddaughter, the hardest age group to keep entertained. Nick Jr keeps her settled for hours. As Scooter and others have said, Discovery channel for Overhaulin, American Hot Rod and numerous other, non car-related docos, History Channel (World War Two nut here!), aircraft, shipwrecks, etc.
We have the top package. Wifey loves the movie channels. Sport great during the League season, but as Channel Nine covers cricket so well, I doubt that I'll keep that during summer. IQ - best cure for nights out/poor FTA programming etc.
Exxy at around $115 per month, but we both like what we get and would miss it if we cancelled.
lol we've got it, parents are addicted to antique roadshow... HAHA!
Me, i like it for sport, fox 8 aka simpsons family guy etc, all the discovery channels, news, weather reports for when I go out on the ski and the odd occasion that I leave it on VH1 or something with some music going during the day.
Comedy channel is pretty good sometimes as well as a couple others that i forget
But I can’t stand!!!…
MTV
I ****ing hate it!! Its sooooo **** it isn’t funny, I actually got it blocked on our box's because my sister was constantly watching the hills and crap US reality shows. She started to talk the US girl lingo and act like she was 22 (she’s 14). Every sentence turned into..
OMG LIKE STEPH IS SUCH LIKE A SLUT, I CANT BELIEVE SHE SAID THAT STUFF ABOUT ME, ROB IS LIKE SOOOO HOT OMG I KNOW!!!!
So I rang up and barred it. ****ing stupid channel...
Partly why i was asking if you had kids around that age![]()
I think your sister and my sister are the same person

I say no its not. I would consider it if the basic package price included all the good channels, but it dosnt. Bassically IMO the basic package does not have enough quality channels and even after a week you start to see repeats.
But all the good channels you get with the top level package are very good channels, but you dont get them without paying up a small fortune each month.
Until they start doing packages where you get to pick the channels you want and not pay for all the crap you dont, and they get enough material to not have repeats in a 6 month period i wont be getting it.
That's exactly it VrWagz.
Basic package? If you've had it three months you've seen the bloody lot. Then it's re-run after re-run. (that's why they tie you into a two year contract.... SCUMBAGS!!)
But if you want the decent channels it costs a bomb. VYII BERLINA - you're paying $115 a month?? Damn! For that sort of money I'd be wanting the TV thrown in as well!
Anyhow, just my own opinions mind - whatever floats yer boat!
Cheerz!

we have all the channels and there have been a few times where we have found nothing on free to air or foxtel. just depends on what you like to watch and if you have kids or not.

You can buy your own PVR or basic decoder, provided its Irdeto compliant, or one that takes a CI (Common Interface).
Existing dishes can be realigned. One can also use the device (Decoder or PVR) to view other FTA satellite content, such as that on Optus D2, eg the english language stations Russia Today, NHK World Japan, Press TV Iran, AlJazeera International on Optus C1.
One can also use (for other services) an HD decoder/PVR.

Purchase a hazard-warning triangle for your car to improve the warning given to approaching traffic at both crash scenes and vehicle breakdowns. Keep it in the boot. I suggest Hella Part Number 2901 - $70, OR http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/onl...215554#details. Accepted under AS3790. http://www.transport.wa.gov.au/media...eSafePart4.pdf

Valid points you make regarding the programming content and the manner in which you have to purchase additional packages to access perhaps only one channel you want. I like a number of channels and, of course, they aren't all on the one package. Yeah, I know it seems a lot of dough (and it is) but as I said, it provided the facility to meet the separate needs of a number of age groups and a wide variety of interests. I could survive on the base package alone, IF the history channel was included. I would only bother with Disco, History, Nat. Geo and perhaps a couple of others, and have the sport for Winter. However, the granddaughter has to be catered to, wife likes movies and various tv shows.
And, I suppose, at our age, we can afford it. No mortgage, no loans, decent superannuation, nice way to be, so Foxtel is a luxury we can allow ourselves. Definitely shouldn't be a priority for young families, well, not the lot, anyway.
