    Default Removing BackSeats Illegal?

    Howdy,

I've got a VS commodore Sedan and was wondering if it was illegal to remove the backseats? I want to remove them because I want to put my sub actually in the cabin because my boot has a gas tank and crap in there. There won't be passengers in the back or anything.

    Thx Guys

Not sure, but if you are putting your sub in the cabin, it won't sound all that great unless you somehow mount a free to air sub. But if you do put it in the cabin, you will need to bolt it down really well, if you stack, it will be a projectile and really insure someone, not to mention that sub boxes need to be properley secured anyways, reguardless of whether they are in the boot or cabin.

Also the fact that it's an open advertisement for theifs.

Years ago I had a Mrk1 Escort without a back seat as it had a roll cage and the seat wouldnt fit. I got a roadworthy cert with the seat out, but that was 15 years ago.

    The answer is NO.

You can take the seat out. You can leave the seat out.

Aslong as you do NOT cut any chassis or body metal that may make the car un-roadworthy in any way. (this includes parcel shelf body metal cut for 6x9's ect...)

You must leave the seatbelts in because it is registered as a passenger vehicle (2seat - 5seat ect...)
Passengers may not use the back of the vehicle without the proper seating.

    hope this helps you.

If you have a decent sub u wont need to worry about hearing it or not.
Both our cars have a 12" in each boot, behind a gas tank and they both sound great.
I thought it might not sound so good, but it does.

    Actually you are incorrect.

If you remove the back seats the seatbelts MUST be removed and the bolts replaced where the seatbelts were. You must also get an engineers certificate to approve it to be roadworthy.

Removing the seats IS illegal as per Australian ADR's without an engineers cert.

+ you have to have the car re-marked(re-listed?) as a 2 seater rather than a 5.

yes you can take the seats out but have to reg it as a two seater with a box in the back it would have to be mounted in a way that if your in a crash that nothing will fly around and hit u or ya passanger

    I think you'll find you're all wrong.

last I checked, you can't register vehicles as 2 seaters anymore if they were sold as a 4/5 seater.

I think it's safe to say that you should leave the seats in and work around your little dilemma, or risk looking like a clown.

Nope, I know a LS2 Corolla that has just been engineered for this...

Thanx guys for all the replies.
Guess that kinda means no to leaving the back seats out :P
Just hated the sub making everything rattle so much in the boot.
    Well that clears that up.

O yer, a suggestion for the site - maybe there should be a Legal/Illegal Thread somewhere. I've seen a few posts about illegal questions in the pub section.
