    Default melb. water restrictions.

had a small leak in power steering. so before greenie next door rises. i used pressure washer on it. but thinking later on if the water police came they would probably hand me a $10,000 fine and cut the water. a few days previous a drunk learner killed a ped. and 12 hours later he,s out (on bail) i reckon i used 3 litres of water so some laws are a little ridiculous. am i a future jail bird.?

Yes, the water restrictions are annoying for those who do the right thing, anyone can waste as much water as they like inside their house.....but point a hose at your car for 3seconds and you get done.
Does your pressure washer have to be connected to a hose? most dont.
Just collect a bucket or two of rinse water from the washing machine to run through it........or just pretend it is the rinse water(shussh....)

if the'greenie' next door does dob u in, u will get a letter in the mail stating that someone has told the water ppl that u have been using it for incorrect use.

We got our next door neighbour in trouble for it, because he was watering his **** everyday... and it ran down the driveway. so we took pics, and gave them to the water ppl.
I think its pretty much 3 strikes and ur out.

Ive used my pressure washer, and if the water ppl did come round, id just say the noise was just the air compressor (thats if the neighbours were to dob me in)
dont worry, il start a ride thread soon.

So it's ok for you to use water illegally by using a pressure washer, but you happily dob in the guy next door. Can you say hypocrite?

I think some nasty karma may be headed your way. Hopefully someone takes pics of you and reports it.

Aren't you allowed to clean up waste like this?.

Gives me the ****s, I'm all for water saving, Cut my water usage by 50% this year after the last couple of years dropping it by 20-30%.
Get the old girls around here watering there $2 plants for 20 min 3-4 times per week, one likes to hide pop up sprinklers in the back yard, But it leaks under the fence, She also planted some stupid $1 plants near her fence, So she can walk to them with the hose and spray the lawn at the same time?.

But if a car enthusiast dares clean some bird **** off his car that he just paid $2000 on painting and repairing, Ohhh look out hand cuffs and next thing your bubba's bitch in cell block c.

I'm sure there is a larger investment in cars then plants, And with a high pressure washer I'm sure a wash once every 2 weeks or even 1 week is less then wastering your plants a few times a week.
But green thumbs are given the thumbs up, And Car enthusiast the thumbs down, And if anyone has been to the public washers they will know you cant take buckets and who would stick that brush onto your pride and joy?.

What Im trying to understand is, why are people allowed to fill up swimming pools, or have bath's every night. I myself have a quick shower, always have always will, I do not water my gardens( we bought drought tolerant plants). People should be allowed to wash a car.

For those who care, we got ourselves a water usage exemption that allows us to wash our car 1 day a week using mains water. In return we acknowledge we will not water our gardens using mains water. Check your local water services website and see if they also allow such exemptions, mine was a basic form that i filled out stating why I wanted my exemption etc, 4 weeks later was approved.

How do you dob in councils that use sprinklers in gardens when its raining?

not in SE QLD we don't, we got ours set up pretty good anyway, it's got a heap of palms around it and has a decent shade so not much water ever goes missing from evaporation...but if we need to we can chuck the hose in...don't need a permit....and i believe in brissy were on level 6?

i loved cairns, took a while to get used to the fact i could go outside and wash the car without thinking who's watching me lol

i used the hose the other week when i was flushing and filling my radiator, also to rinse off the coolant i got on the body. i just figured that the water i used was offset by the fact that no water would need to be used to respray, or to manufacture new parts for my car that could have otherwise cooked and died.
no-one complained, i think most people can see a difference between a bit of necessary use and full on water wastage.

EXACTLY!!!... How many councils run sprinklers in parks/round abouts when its raining, its stupid.

Our water regs about a bit different to melbournes. We can wash our cars if it goes through a water saving device (pressure washer). So is what they are saying is I cant stand their all day and wash my car, whilst my neighbour will get fined for giving his a light sprinkle with the hose, its rediculous.

And Yes I do lend the pressure washer to the neighbour

My other neighbour wasnt allowed to fill her pool up, but could "wash" it for aslong as she wanted aslong as she used a water saving device WTF!!

Price of water needs to be a LOT higher if they want to have any serious impact in reducing water usage.

If you pay for it you should be able to do what you want with it.

I'm just glad I have an exemption from any restrictions when it comes to washing my cars.

Another thing to do if you can, is wash your car in your back yard where nobody can see.

see my friend from work was allowed to fill up her brand new pool but had to get the fire trucks to come fill it? i dont get it whats the point of that still wasting water they still have to keep topping it up when it drops down. i reckon they should ban installation of pools until we are out of trouble or get that pipeline in.

Having been to a dairy farm or or two in my time, and even milked cows when I went to an Agrircultural High School, I can safely say no water is required in the milking process. Sure cows will drink water but not 1000 litres twice a day.

its not just giving cows water its also makeing the plastic bottles filtering the milk also its worked out to just under 1000litres per 2 litres of milk.

trust me, the ones I see going are NOT using recycled water, well unless they have same amazing pipeline to a water tank somewhere else which would of required roadworks to go under at least one of the roads where these sprinklers are located.

lol could you imagine how long it would take to fill a pool with the hose....(well hoses are banned so buckets :P ) pretty sure all new pools/drained pools are filled by the fireys, my old man had one put into his place a good 10 years ago now and same thing back then...got the fireys to fill her up from the main....thats all im going off though, a new pool and one having to be drained and refilled due to repairs needing to be carried out...

What used to annoy me was when they were building the Eastlink near Police Road. The council swore they were using recycled water but you could see the water tankers filling up their tanks at the fire hydrants then spraying the road to keep the dust down . But when you drove down police Road your car would end up covered in mud and crap , plus you also spread the crap further down the road so the tankers would have to drive further so spray it when it dried , and so it would keep going .
I use a pressure washer connected to one of our water tanks to wash our cars.
there are three types of people in the world , those who can count and those who can't
