Gday im after a new 250cc motorbike because i kinda smashed up my old 1 by hitting loose stones while going quick around a corner and was just debating whether to go for a honda nsr or suzuki rgv or its better to find a 4 stroke
i normally use it to get to work and want something which will go quick but still be reliable enough and not cost as much as the commy to get 2 me work

if you buy a 2 stroke, ensure that the engine is in good nick. most rgvs have been thrashed to the point where the big end bearing is hanging off the crank. i once bought a cheap CR 125, only to find the owner had broken the piston, and put it back into the engine backwards. obviously it didn't last long. when i bought it, i assumed he just didn't know how to keep it in tune and that i could fix it up. only when i pulled the head off did i realise i'd been conned.
4 strokes are probably more reliable, in general.
4 strokes are in my opinion much better if u do not know how to maintain a 2 stroke alot of problems can occur (im not saying u dont know) or if u cant be bothered a 4 stroke is one of those things that does not have many problems if u dont have the time go with a 4 stroke ive only had 1 2 stroke and i hated it speed yeaaa but 4 stroke is much better just in my opinion
Go the two stroke! I've had a CRM250AR, i occasionally get to ride a XR250, the uncle has a XT250 and i just bought an '03 YZ250WR which is awesome! The crm and the yz are heaps more fun and challenging to ride, but i've gone through a few top ends, and a whole rebuild (just to be safe on the yz), and neither of the 4 strokers have had their filters cleaned.
2 stroke = fun, expensive maintenance, cheap rebuilds
4 stroke = boring(ish), cheap(ish) maintenance, not so cheap rebuilds (but they're rarely needed)...
two stroke power baby. mine is at 62thou k's and gets thrashed every day. just gotta change the gearbox oil often cause they have alloy gears, but its only 700ml so its no biggy.
great bike, paid $750 for it and love it,

2 stroke all the way, less maintenance and no 4 stroke will beat the fun factor of a 2 stroke...

4 Stroke.
2-Stroke is just not worth the effort.'
Actually, 250's arnt worth the effort.
aZk.
hahah 250s are not worth the effort but the l platers out there like me :@:@ we cant ride anythin bigger well we can power to weight ratio just easier to get a 250 lol cant wait till i got my full license ducati 900 sport here i come![]()
Except for the fact that if you are riding a 600 on your L's or P's, it requires you to not have any P plates on to make sure you don't get caught. That's 2 points right there. And then it becomes a $300 fine. Two times getting caught and you lose your license, on your L's it's an automatic suspension.
Is it really worth it?
Buy a 250, sell it for the same price you bought it for a year later to some other learner, within 2 weeks. It's not as if the market is poor for learner bikes. Get a bigger bike and drop it, and see what it's worth afterwards.
how sure are u that its no points?????? and do u think coppers would distinguish between a V65lario and a V65 lol cause we have one of them here i could try and get away witht hat only thing that screws me is that the lario is a 4 valve and the v65 is a 2 so the lario is more powerful lol but are u sure no points cause i only got one left
in sa there is a power to weight ratio
wow, you guys are heros, get a bigger bike to learn on, when you crash it, and you will, give me a call, i wanna be there to laugh when the insurance company doesnt pay you, and when you hurt someone else and you get a criminal record and possible jail, i will also laugh.
not everything is about getting caught by the cops, i bet you guys are the type of people that drink and drive aswell.
he asked about 250 bikes, not who thinks he is above the law.
to put its simply, if your just gonna ride to work and just around the streets, get a 4 stroke.
if you wanna take it on track days, through the twisties, and generally ride a bit faster get a 2 stroke
