Cars are a TINY cost for government. They pay no taxes on them and get MASSIVE fleet discounts. $20,000 for an SS cop car for example. They put 40,000km on them and sell them at auction, sometimes getting MORE for them than what they paid for them.

Ahh the mad max interceptor, I remember when a look a like came to my show one year and did a burnout till the tyre blew with the lights flashing (at night) I was ten yaers old and I though It was f#*king awsome, best ford ever.

coz their donated by the manufacturer as community based policing. You will never get pulled over by a Tiida (they dont even have flashing lights) the Monaros and stuff different story, but hey it gets guys like us talking about it hey, otherwise would we be having a decent conversation about cops instead of just bagging them out when we f*ck up?

the fully unmarked VE SS-V's are another one, you'd think the 3 mobile phone antennas on the rear window, massive CB antenna, GPS antenna or perhaps the radar hanging off the rear window would give it away yet some people still do stupid things around it without even realising ...

All gov. vehicles (well most) are leased.
Yes there are government discounts on the initial vehicle cost that affect the
monthly lease charge,but it's not as cheap as you make it out to be.

A lease on a police ss is still calculated from a base vehicle cost of over 40grand
plus the cost of accessories etc on top.

the manufacturer still has to make money.

A side note, Ford give the biggest discounts

Wrong! The base price for me to get a VE SS Commodore on government lease when I was a Federal Employee was $35,000. For the AFP, an SS costs them less than $30,000. A mate of mine used to setup the emergency services leases in the ACT.
