My brother smashed my car up!

Well i got into a fight with my brother which ended up with him getting taken away in the divy van from the pub. He thought he would get the divy van to take him to my house so he could smash up my car which was in the lock up garage but the rear entrance was unlocked.
Called the cops when i got home to find my car with a wheel through my back window, side window smashed, 2 holes drilled in drivers side doors, and the drivers side door kicked in.
The cops just told me to try claim it on home and contents insurance since the car currently isnt registered or insured.
I assumed he would have to pay for the damage?
Anyone been in a similar sitution?

sounds like your brother and you lose control so taking him to court and pressing charges etc is prolli a bad idea. Sit him down, have a chat and sort something out. Not worth losing a brother over a couple of grands damage mate.

As much as my anger @ seeing this would like me to say stomp his brain on the nearest gutter, I have to say that cars are replaceable family is not! Can i ask why he was in such a rage that he had felt he had to act in such a way? If his answer is just full of **** and wind then i would take him 2 court get my money back and cut him off!! If he was going through some hardcore emotionall issues, then as his brother maybe try to find out what the **** is going on??

Family is worth more than property, my mum lost her brother in a tragic accident & for all the **** fights they had its not worth a candle in the wind once there gone if ya get my drift!

Yes, I have. Didn't take acts of violence to resolve the issue, a simple little talk while he was in "suspension" worked a treat. The wanker now acts like my best mate whenever I am around...goddamned drug ****ed morons. For the record, it was my mothers brother. In the 5 years since our "chat" he hasn't acted like he used to at any family get together
