Default help me kill things (wasps mostly)

i just came home and when i was about to head through the door a reasonably big european wasp flew by me and into a small gap between the wooden doorframe and the brick of the house.
so it seems there's a nest of the bastards in there.

not really sure what to do, i could go the cheapo route and get some mortein and spray it in there but i suspect this would see me getting stung a billion times and dying like that macauly culkin wuss in my girl.

could also get some sikaflex and seal it up, but the gap stretches round a fair way, so it'd be a bit of work, and i don't want to send them into the walls cos they might come into the internal areas of the house, or up into the roof.

anyone got any ideas, or better yet used an exterminator? what do they cost?

Do you know where the wasp's nest is? Can you get to it? You can buy stuff from Bunnings that comes in a pressure pack that you simply spray into the entrance of the nest. Best to do it at dusk when the nest isn't active.
I had 2 just recently but because I have an anaphylactic reaction to their bites, I wimped out and got an exterminator. Cost $150 from memory.

haha we always use the cheap export degreaser as when you spray them they fall to teh ground and die (usually....lol) as i have found mortein etc they still fly around for ages and get real ****ed but with the degreaser it works allot better.

other then that mortein etc or as CSP said BURN it down...no more wasps.....but one angry landlord

Find out where the nest is and if it is in the ground then pour a whole heap of sump oil in it or if it is up higher get the wasp powder from Bunnings, whatever you do don't pour petrol down a hole and light it as wasp nests have tunnels like ants and you will end up blowing a huge hole and wasps everywhere!!!

i use a product called coopex. its about $11 at my local hardware place. its a powder that you mix with water. it will kill all types of insects within 15 mins of contact.
if you dont own a spray bottle you can simply mix it in a bucket and tip it around. it lasts about a fortnight if it doesnt rain.
if you have dogs you cant use it where they may lick it etc.
heres my ride, i know its not much but its mine

Some of the powders are good. You leave them around the nest at night, and then the next day the workers introduce it into the colony and they die out

even though we can all agree that burning anything is sufficiently awesome, this powder looks to be the best bet because they're through a gap in the wall and i can't access them directly and can't really pour stuff in there, I might just put some of this stuff on a ledge or shelf next to where the come and go from.

I use WD40 on rouge wasps at work and it works rather well.

Ring up your local council and they will send someone round to deal with it .

I put this powder stuff on the entrance, but wasnt super effective according to my brother (i.e it didnt work instantly) so he got a few cans of this super strong **** we had and sprayed into their nest during the day.

Wasps went apesh*t, and my brother, well he was lucky the 2 cans didnt run out. Minutes later about 180 dead wasps.

landlords are elderly and useless as, asked them to get a sparky out to look at some power points, so they go 'there's a plumber coming there next week, we'll get him to organise a sparky' and also got told we weren't allowed to get our own quotes.
the sparky called a couple of times on our landline during the day and was uncontactable, then nothing came of it.
we just put up with it cos the rents fairly cheap and we don't want to remind them we're here cos they'll likely hike it up. most of the street is paying about $100 more a week for generally crappier places.

I think you just answered your own question, his house, his wasps, he can pay for the exterminator.(disregard, stupid dial up, got beaten again.^^^^)
alternatively in our council area they will remove EUROPEAN wasp colonies for FREE! but only the european wasps.

That Mortein Surface Spray is some effective ****. I spray around my house once a year. It recommends that you do it every 6 months, but I am lazy and it still seems to work after 12 months. I often find dead bugs and insects that have wandered too close to window frames etc. Never get any cockroaches in my house either. I may die a slow painful death from inhaling these toxic fumes over time, but it does a good job
