Possible Trading Post section re-vamp. Add your suggestions here

Hi peeps,

I am currently putting forward some suggestions in the admin/mod forum for changing the format of the Trading Post.

First idea was to change the name to 'Just Classifides' so as to not blatently rip off a major publication.

Second suggestion was to change the sections and add new ones. Current ideas are as follows:

'Cars for sale'
'Cars wrecking ONLY'
'Car parts'
'Non Auto'
'Wanted to buy or trade (auto and non auto)'

Third suggestion (which I just thought of) is a relax in the rules. I know alot of people don't actually use the basic format templates I came up with for most sections so I suggest scrapping them for all section except the Cars for sale section.


This is all just talk to the moment and I am more then willing to listen to any ideas that you users have to help make the section easier to use and more effective.

just a suggestion, but maybe more localised sale sections? dunno if they'd need to be in the various chapters respective sub forums, but could make it easier to search for what you want nearby rather than having to go through heaps of posts only to find the item you want for sale on the other side of the country

thats the biggest problem ive noticed, you find a little piece of gold, only to find out its in W.A or something, also most users dont say where the item is

Which is why i like the templates, its annoying when you got to ask for details because people forget or there are like 10 posts asking for certain details. It not too bad when stuff is in different states, depending what the item is theres always a chance of getting it posted or couriered. I think subsections for different states would be tedious to look through. i normally visit once a day so ilook through the last couple of days posts.
Thread digging is annoying in the trade section but theres not really much you can unless you make thread expire after a certain period.

It is also set to auto prune every 7 days(Can be made longer in this case) which is also good as it then doesnt clog up with 700 pages of things for sale and once you sell the item you then edit the title to SOLD and then a mod will delete when they next see it.. Also on this site if you dont use the template it will be deleted..

I think keep the template as it makes people put as much info as they can so your not chasing something to fnd it in WA or not near you as said above.. also i think that If you are selling three items, then three templates must be used in the one post

I like the section for wheels as theres always plenty of wheel thread so it would be worthy of it own section and if your not interested you dont have scroll past 10 threads.
People should change their threads to sold when it gone and use the report button so admin/mods know about it.
Also i'll add i like the itrader system theres just not enough people using it

If the mods come on here everynight or every few hours to see them then add them that sounds ok but if they dont come on here then a ad might not get listed even if its ok for a day or 2 and not get the sale that might of been thats all...

Mods are on here every night, theres usually at least one of us about maybe not in the wee hours of the morning (though some of us have been known to still be lurking around at 4 in the morning lol) the longest some one would have to wait should only be a few hours.

These sections seem good, with a Non-Automotive section too could work well

Basically the seller has to fill out the required fields before they are aloud to post the item up for sale.

If they dont want to spend the time to fill it out, they dont put it up for sales on here. Simple, easy and clean way of doing it

I've also attached the HTML code as a .text if you want to view it in a webpage environment. It looks 10 times better that way just dont know how to upload it onto here

Yeah I totally agree with that ! Splitting it up into different localities would make it easier to find whatever is available within a area.

Also letting members delete their old forsale threads instead of being retentive would free up the forum of clutter. Aswell as making searches of the site for items and articles quicker with less loadtime on the server.

If it didnt sell then just relist it after 7 or 10 days

+1 for banks post #13 attachment idea. If the feild dosnt have text in it then it wont post it.
As it is now half the forsale stuff you have to go look through the first half dozen posts to get all the details. I think any thread like that should be deleted.

As for sub section ideas, i think the first mentioned sections is fine, ONLY IF you add to the search function a filter to just pick out stuff in your state, by it querying the state box in the template or somthing. So if you wanna buy stuff, you can search local content, not stuff 3 states away. I think that will be tidyer than having a million sub sections for each state
If it can be done a section that has all the latest activity of all the for sale sections in it, so people who just like to browse can just look at the latest stuff being posted.

I think the state sections would be a good idea. Pretty sure i've posted threads for this a few times before, but it was always decieded as a no by admin.


It could work well with just 4 sub sections. Cars, Parts, Wrecking and non auto.

You wouldn't need to change anything in the seach, because you can physically select whatever sub sections you want now. Alternatively, just selecting the 'cars' in the WA section is obviously only going to show the cars in that section.


A mandatory text field like what SC uses is ****. Leave it at the template, but enforce that some form of neatness is needed. I'll happily spend hours deleting threads and PM'ing people who don't use a template.

BTZ, agree.

Having ****loads of categories will confuse things.

People couldn't even post things in the my ride section correctly so we had to make it moderated for thread creation.

Keep it simple, keep it easy.
