Flying is well and truely in my blood. There aren't many people around here that can say they could fly a plane before they could drive a car. I first took the controls of a cessna 182 when I was 8 years old - a good month or 2 before taking full control of a car.
It has always been too expensive to get my license, but when I graduate and get my massive engineers salary then I am hoping to give it more of a go.
I don't get much of a chance to fly since moving to the city, but still try and get behind the controls a couple times a year.

Not really into the modern stuff. However I have a passing interest in the stuff Germany was doing in WW2; especially the Messerschmitt Me 262. Also done a few hours gliding in a blanik. Of interest, my wife bought me a stunt flight in a Tiger Moth Bi-Plane for my birthday. Very memorable....

I had always wanted to become an astronaut (not exactly flying a plane, but you do need pilot license to fly a space craft)...But their recommendations are too high for me...

I nearly got the theory part of the private pilot's licence when I was in school. Joined air cadets for a short time, love doing plastic model kits (although not very well) of ww2 planes, also have a few books about various planes.

I am mostly in to mill stuff though, would love to get a flying model plane one day

I have an interest in aviation. Particularly WW2 aircraft. I just returned from Germany and saw a nice 262 at the Deutsches museum. The war memorial here is Canberra also has some great planes. My favourite plane is the Lockheed Lightning.

I have an interest in it, as far as what planes get me up high enough to jump out

Apart from that, not too much of an interest, used to love doing ops with RAAF, was insane being on patrol while having pigs doing combat exercise over the top of you at low alt.

I worked next to the Woomera air field in the Mechanical Engineering section. Had planes all the time - RAAF pilots doing there thing. Messed up many welds when they returned to the runway at full noise. Then they would drop their bum and go straight up. They were the days - just did not realise how much I would miss the airport after 19 years with the Dept of Defence.

Only flown an ultralight for 30mins which was real fun until the instructor killed the motor and did a dead stick landing doing the "tell me when we hit 500 feet" I yelled so loud I must have sounded just a wee bit scared. 3 bounces and we were on the ground safe. Ithought he was going to restart the engine - but no. Shhhiiiiiiittttttt.

    Went home and changed undies.

Had a one & half hour joy ride in a black hawk chopper around Lake Heart - playing marker boys to un-exploded ordinance. Shaky for a while after that when we did 6 tail landing slappers as the sun set with a trainee pilot. Oh what a joy that was.

    Went home and changed undies.

But the best bit is hundreds of hours on the MS flight sim. I have heaps of planes to select. Best plane to fly on the simulator in my book is the Spitfire VI - a very balanced sim plane to fly. Still have trouble with the 747's.

Have done sim flights to most parts of Australia with the proper maps - scabbed of a bloke who had his own plane (he must have got newies). Much fun navigating at night and see the airfield light appear.

    I miss the airport.

Try doing fast rope ex with training pilots. Especially US ones, they are bloody nightmares.

I was in a co-pilot seat during a training excercise for fast roping once... The pilot was a Helo instructor and the fast ropers were training and not on comm. The fast rope army instructor was and he comes on and says "come on sir, make it interesting for them" hahaha!

3 of them were on their arses!

Sounds fairly common. They like to make it seem like how it would be. I guess if you can train in unpredictable circumstances you can do anything.

    Ah the good old days.

Never been in the millitary; although I was a military brat for many years. However I did a few jumps when I was a member of skydiving club in Pakenham That was until I broke my ankle and then just after that was okay, my leg in a motorcycle accident. Never had one of those fancy Ramair chutes neither. Good old army surplus stuff.

Yeah, I love the Me 262. Did you realize that they've finally got one of the replicas flying?

There is an open day at Canberra Airport this week end Qantas and Virgin planes for people to look at. There will be a FA18 fly over around 11:30.

Yeah that is pretty cool. I like the Me-163 Komet. That plane was crazy. So many pilots died flying those things. There is a good example here in Canberra with the dolly cart that it needed to take off.

i too flew a plane before i got my drivers license. half way through a private license but haven't the funds to continue it. grew up about 15mins from a US airbase in the Netherlands. was use too seeing/hearings F-15 eagles screaming out on full afterburner from the zulu alert to intercept anything coming from the USSR towards NATO airspace

would have been an airforce pilot except i'm was to tall to complete jet conversion training that all pilots had to pass including rotary wing pilots they changed that rule later but then i was to old to apply

mostly into military aviation, both historic and modern

oneday i'll complete the pilots license. when i'm in a plane at the controls is about the only time i'm real happy
