    Default Work Ethic...

This was sent to me today as one of those "funny emails" most people get a few of a week. Thing is, I wasn't laughing. Is this a true representation of Generation Y? What happened to work ethic? What has happened to communication.... "HAHAHA LMAO epic fail - no worries man" certainly isn't how I would want anyone in my company communicating and certainly not with their managers.

I found this quite surprising having worked for very large and very small companies and departments - both for Government and private sectors. This is the first time I have ever seen anything like this....

    What a wanker.

I was PMSL @ what the guys at Worksafe were saying about generation Y's. Basically, the work accidents they are seeing, and the amount of accidents is so high they specifically had to make adverts to cover the Gen Y's. Never before have they seen so many "stupid" and such easily avoidable work accidents. It is kind of sad really.

I notice this is a stab at Gen Y.

In my work i'm casual, and i've had a few run ins with the managers because of time i've booked off. Long story short, everything was ok, until some people quit, and thus making them short staffed. Its not my fault they can't keep people in a job. I was prepaired to be fired to still have the days off i booked (as per their policies for days off).

In the end i only got a written warning, but it goes both ways. They only didn't want me having the day off because they'd have to pay someone else double time to go in.

I was also told that 'motor racing' isn't a valid reason for time off. Which is bull****, other people have had tme off for the same, and other crap (like a friend of a friend getting married, what a crock of ****)

Although the guy in those emails above, he's just a wanker. Being drunk isn't a valid reason for a day off. If i was his manager, i'd fire him.

Motor racing is a valid reason for annual leave. That said, since when do you have to provide a reason for annual leave? It is no employers right to know what employee's do on annual leave.

If it were for sick leave, understandable, but not annual leave.

Weekends, public holidays and annual leave is what should be used for recreational activities. Sick leave should be used when you are sick and special dispensation should be given for tragedies (such as a death in the family).

You don't need a reason for annual leave, but you should ensure it is approved before making plans, because ultimately the employer needs to ensure that someone taking time off fits in with their needs.

It's not so much a stab at Gen Y STEALTHY, it's more a stab at their perception of work ethic.

Give us a few examples minux.
I work with asbestos and alot of new guys coming through are just jackasses.

We had a new guy start who tried to put on his asbestos suit legs first. Basically these things are overalls, so he couldn't get his arms in and he just tied it around his waist.
the supervisor saw before anyone else did (NTWorksafe was on site at the time) and threw him out of the danger zone.
That was just the most recent one i can remember, prolly have more....anyway. MINUX!

Being casual, i don't get any leave. Its just classed as 'unavaliable' for that day.
Like i said, their policies say up to 2 people from the one site) can book any day off at a time. The other guy who also booked off the same time, got fired for abusing the manager. He basically said what i was thinking.

*puts hand up* yes I'm at work but on lunch now. I took sick leave this year for the first time in my life only because my supervisor could see i was just staring into space and couldn't think when I was working cos I had the flu pretty bad.

Work ethic is something that is instilled in your character, not based on what year you were born. I'd like to think I have a good work ethic, although I admit I am partial to Just Commodores on a boring day like yesterday.

bahahaha what a dumbass. its a well known fact that at my work, some of the girls in the office in HR and admin will look at facebook. they normally just use it to check out anyone new applying for a job. to post that up just means he deserves any punishment he gets.
im on annual leave today and tomorrow. have worked 10 months without using it and was told i need to take it soon lol. 6-7 day work weeks can get annoying after a while

not as bad as smoke breaks. at least with coffee they can bring it back at my work and drink at their desks. with a smoke break, you might need help from someone, but you gotta wait cause theyre outside for 20 minutes smoking

HAH, Smoking should be banned at work. People will generally waste around an hour a day smoking. Few minutes to go where to have one, few more minute shaving one, few minutes coming back. It is a joke.
