Regardless, all the ZR1 is, is an ugly looking car with an old outdated engine setup running a supercharger. Why would you pay almost double the price of a GTR that has 1/10th of the technology?
I agree with most of what you wrote, except about the looks

While the Skyline looks totally tits, I like the look of the Vette better (bias opinion here)

A dodge viper also costs $60,000 in the US. Don't see too many Vipers costing that here.

When GM are considering a limited import run of the ZR-1 at the price estimated to be around $400k AUD, you won't be able to import it in any capacity at the prices you are suggesting. Welcome to the real world mate. Cars cost alot more in australia

I know it's not a guarantee for this model, but the previous GTR's were virtually bulletproof so I can't see these ones being any different. The old GTR's were renowned for a driveline capable of 700hp, despite the factory output being around 400hp. GTR's are typically over-engineered to hell.

I have to disagree with turbos being high-maintenance. I've owned turbo cars almost exclusively for the past 10 years and only had one problem with a turbo - and that was due to a coolant blockage rather than the turbo itself.

Turbos only got a bad name in the early days (mid to late 80's) when the technology and metellurgy was still a bit sketchy.

If turbos were high maintenance, do you think they would be fitted to 75% of the trucks on the road? Reliability is the single most important factor in trucking, and the turbos on trucks work harder than those on cars.

Anyway, the R35 GTR is a giant-killer and the top of my car wish-list. Looks fantastic, beats just about everything on the road and track, and then you can drive it home....perfect.

Oh for the record, just because something has crap loads of power, it does not make it fast down the 1/4. Give me a new GTR anyday for all around performance over any Australian or American built V8. I am sure if Japan wanted to build V8's, they would slaughter everyone anyway. What is the point though when they can have 6 cylinder turboes blow the pants off cars with V8's and V10's with 3-4 times the pricetag?
    Totally agree on that

Hahah minux you've changed.... You used to think turbod 6s and 4s are ****house because they need turbos too get them moving and that LS1 N/As are the best thing ever. Now you sound like you love turbos lol.

No, I am saying the GTR is is a brilliant car and has a wonderfully designed V6 to match it. It doesn't change the fact that i think all holden 6's are pieces of crap Also does not change the fact that to get any 6 and 4 moving you do require FI. For anyone to say this car is piece of crap would be seriously delusional.

I still love NA LS1's and bang for buck no 6 without FI will come close.

Hahaha maybe just maybe. Buy a VL for 1k, spend 1K too factory turbo charge it, add an intercooler and 9psi of boost and it should beat a stock LS1

Just cos it could beat an LS1 doesn't change the fact that it is still a VL.

So true lmao..the argument is mute really.

    Here is a better comparison.

Take any choice of car, take one stock VL Engine, one stock LS1. Do the exact same mods to each one in the same car and watch what one wins, I guarantee the Vl Engine will come last everytime.

Stock N/A or Stock VLT? They were designed to be turbo charged.

well there you go, the whole vehicle industry has just wasted a good 20+ years on developing new engines, when all they needed to do was spend $1000 on an rb30 to beat anything. Maybe we should all put in to send a vl to germany and put it against the GTR, hell maybe we could spend $2000 and put it against the bugatti...

Don't you find it intriguing that almost EVERY post about another car on this forum tends to go the "my vl could beat it" path?

I like the new GTR. Looks great and from what I have read, is out of this world in terms of performance for the price. Someone mentioned how this is in the same price range as the W427 but a much better all-round car. They are probably right, but compare the prices of both cars in 20-30 years time and I bet the W427 owners will be grinning. Look at the old VS GTS-R these days - Not much in terms of performace but prices are going through the roof. Thats why the W427 will sell. I'd imaging most will be mothballed.

As I said, the GTR is impressive. The Corvette probably still has the edge for looks though.
