You need insurance in case you backed into a 100K + car........ Protect your wallet, not your car....
im sure he has 3rd party, but not full comp.
Have a search around the forum for some conversion/removal threads. If you cant find anything then shoot me a pm or something and ill dig a few threads up.
no longer a hoon by association - the commodore is gone
a few little tips from me
- dont take the ac out, just disconnect it from the engine
- dont take the PS pump out, just disconnect it from the engine and leave the resi to the side too
leave both in the engine bay and that way when you but the new engine in you dont need to fill the ps fluid etc and the ac doesnt need to be regassed. Also when you start the engine move the steering from lock to lock about 5 times, that way it bleeds the system. Dont be alarmed that they may be bubbles in the PS.
Umm, also just leave the trans in the car and unbolt the torque convertor from the flywheel that way you dont end up with trans oil all over the place. there are only 3 bolts holding the t-convertor to the flywheel.
Umm, there are 2 trans cooler lines (i think, im not sure on the vp) they are a pain in the ass to get on and off. so if you can do it then leave them on.
ahhhhh, what else... oh, i find you can either move the loom to the side and go back to it later or you can just pull the lot out. First option is easier
shoot me a pm if u need
thanks guys for your help
to nicko i am sure i had a look before but i dont htink i came across anything about removels
to calais yea i know about the ac and that and even if i had to recover the system i could just get it charged at work
and you get 3rd party when you registger the car

lol woops my bad ohh well we might have to get insurance but if we got it they would have jus writen the car off because the cost to replace orfix the motor would have been greater then the cost of the car anyway

3rd party wont cover your own car, just the car u hit
no longer a hoon by association - the commodore is gone
yea well evenstill that is better then forking out $3000+ for repairs
Homer: "for once in my life someone is calling me sir without (your making a scene)"
3rd party will never cover damage to u car, so lets say u spend $300 a year on 3rd party, then u run up the ass of a new range rover, they will have the car repaired without cost to u. Lets say u dont have 3rd party. You run up the ass of a new range rover and suddenly ur down 50thou + repairs to ur car
i recommend if its not a rebuild (a auto recyclers motor) pull the sump clean out with a cleaning agent of some type check the cas and wile your there check the seal behind the balencer thats the bottom end now after that i would check the under side of the intake for build up and pull the heads wile your at it and make sure that it has a clean boar (no piston slap) i can do this if i have a motor on the ground in about 5 hours and if your careful you wont need to replace your head gaskets how is the first motor stuffed (seized low compression ) if its been seized or over heated i wouldn't trust the injectors thay tend to really play up if there overheated to long your heads may be alright but then again it may have damaged them to it really depends how the motor is f#$ked

yea i got a motor off a guy this afternoon it is out of a vp calais he done a compression test on it and had it running for about 3 and a half hours and took the intake off and that and said it looked pretty gd so i will be putting that in within the next week or so as i dont have much time with work and a newborn but when i get the old motor out i will strip it right down and see how much damage has been done to it because i put a big spanner on the balancer and tried to turn it but it has hard as a rock

Yeah, good advice - regardless of the value of your car, 3rd party property cover should be mandatory (and as said, green slip is 3rd party injury only).
Some insurers do actually offer "3rd party, fire and theft", so normal 3rd party property, plus they'll pay if the car is stolen or catches on fire (usually up to $10,000). I had a mate who had this with Just Cars, his car was in an accident and he got it towed to a repair shop. While it was sitting there overnight some fcukwits came and broke in an stole the boot, seats, gauges, bonnet, wheels, BOV. Ended up a statutory write-off and insurance payed out the $10k (minus excess and salvage because he kept the car and repaired it).
i had the same issue with my first race motor the front end bearing (behind the balencer) let go at high revs and chewed up the inside of the cam chain housing and the central shaft and if it aint that its seized from over heating so i recon its probably a good idea to do what you said and have a good look chances are you will have all the bolt on parts but ditch the block and pistons ect then you know that you have spares for the future when it becomes almost impossible to get them
let me know what it was if you can see what it was![]()
