Holden cuts power to save fuel - drive.com.au
"As part of the mild engine update, all entry-level Commodore V6s built from November will get 5kW less power, representing a 2.8 per cent reduction. The 175kW power output of the new Commodore for 2009 is identical to that of the 2004 Commodore - and 20kW less than the rival Falcon."
tsk tsk tsk come on holden what are you thinking?
Although, now there will 20kw difference between the omega the calais/sv6 lol. But still, changing the tune is one thing, going back to the power output of the first alloytecs is admitting they ****ed this one up
I guess Holden figure that Omega drivers care more about economy than power. I see far more Berlina's, SS's and Calais getting around than Omegas anyway.
Car theives should be treated just like horse theives and cattle rustlers in the days of the wild west... Hang them!
Don't be stupid. Power isn't measured by the size of your tacho
the only Omega's i usually see on the roads are for the undercover cars here in vic...
or annoying sales reps
You wouldn't even feel the difference. Who gives a sh*t anyway, if someone is buying the car for the power, there is a good chance it won't stay standard for long.
there is more of a chance that they wont be buying a v6 omega lol
By the sound of it, the power chasers weren't buying them anyway, so I fail to see your point.
You wouldn't buy an omega for power. Or sportyness.
They really need to 6 speed auto to make a change. The 5 speed is fine real world. But the shorter ratio of the 4 speed still helps around town. The taller gearing in the 5 speed is tall. The 6 speed is needed to reduce ratio and shorter revs when cruising normal.

Hmm, wouldnt less power in these heavy cars UP the fuel consumption?

they could of just kept the same power and taken a few 100kgs of fat off the ve lol
I sort of like the idea. Most people here on the coast who drive Omegas are business men and im sure they don't care about power at all so it'll be good.
it is fair enough that they are doing something for the environment and the dump of power doesnt worry me, 5kw is nothing. But it has got me thinking about all the extra's in the commodores that use fuel.
Omega is nothing special, its a standard car with practicality and affordability. So they are going in the right direction. Making them lighter would be even better.
If you want power + options, then go up to higher models like Calais, SS whatever.... Its what they are there for.....
i totally agree, but i wonder how quick an ls2 omega (if its available) thats had all the disposable weight (sound deadener, stupid plastic ****, boot carpet, esp sensors) all that crap. and then compare its consumption to that of a calais v which is fat
so what mods do the cop cars have here in s.a.? because they all drive omegas and I would have thought they require powerful cars.
Nobody wants to play with me
i dont think that they would be modified due to implications with the EPA, ADR's and alike. But it has been seen in the past, around the vx-vz period that the 9c1 (police pack) has been available with the LS1 motor. It may be the the omega 9c1 is available with the 6lt.
well they certainly don't have v8's here and when they did they were ss's.
Nobody wants to play with me
