EXCLUSIVE: P-PLATERS will be banned from driving high-powered cars under Labor - and confiscated vehicles will be sold, even if they belong to drivers' parents. Premier Alan Carpenter outlined the new policy in an interview with The Sunday Times and said the proceeds of cars sold would be used to help victims of road trauma. P-platers would be banned from getting behind the wheel of V8, turbo or super-charged cars and even those with modified six-cylinder engines.
The car models to be banned would be listed in the legislation.

"Mr ****, its officers ***** from the WA Police department, I am calling to inform you that you have one sweet sounding 5lt, unfortunately your son will be walking home tonight, you can buy back your clubby if you wish" lol
It does seem interesting that he didnt mention driving modded 4cyl engines

That's exactly how it should be...Although my dad had a 4cyl torana and was one hell of a tree hugger :| that's the only reason I was allowed a 6 cyl, he knew that having a 4 cyl made no difference![]()
allowed to have a v6? gosh, although i guess my parents were not to keen on me bringing home the ve, i probably should have told them sooner than the day before i took delivery

and what is to happen to those in my situation? i already own a supercharged car.... they can't do ****, there would be no way they would be able to backdate a law like that. well i hope they cant anyway
Wow your premier sounds even smarter than Iemma was... Doesn't like stereotyping much does he?"It is obvious that 17-year-old boys getting behind the wheel of a high-performance car is asking for trouble,'
The article also refers to W.A where there are currently no restrictions at all.
yer what he said ^^^
Ahh, great to see Labor now pandering to the masses. I guess this will really solve all the road problems. I guess it shows that lack of driver training and education isn't a problem at all, guess it also shows that the study that showed that over 90% of accidents are caused by lack of concentration was all a hoax too.
It is high time the public stood up to this dictatorship before they make to many more ****ed up laws.

what a stupid article
what the hell has that got to do with high powered engines in cars? same damage would be done by any car travelling at the same speed, even if it was some 1.5L thing.Car-crash survivor Chris Hewson, 60, from Denmark, was also pleased with the ban plan.
He was involved in a horror accident in 1984 which nearly took his life.
He said the bans should be introduced as soon as possible.
"A 17-year-old drunk, driving a stolen car with a 14-year-old passenger, hit me head-on,'' Mr Hewson said.
v6 or v8? wonder if theyll ban v6's? who will buy a used vn v6 then.Hayley was a passenger in a Holden Commodore driven by her boyfriend, who at the time was a 17-year-old learner driver. The car left the road and slammed into a brick wall in Morley on August 25, 2006.
no we dont have more money. we can buy a high powered vehicle for $1000 if we wanted. It was traditional in Australia to own bigger cars because of our wide open roads, but hoons had become more of a problem because young people had more money to spend than before on big, powerful vehicles.

nevermind, i didn't realise this was a W.A thing. so they are bringing out rules like new victorian p plate rules... and yes i am a p plater and am allowed to drive a supercharged, turbo charged or v8 vehicle as long as it meets the 125kw per ton restriction.
cheers johnny
My brother's RB30 eats my 253 for breakfast....both stock....yet mine will be banned? lol.

No need to get nasty, and no P platers for years, have not been able to drive big V8s (L platers were, which I only found out after I got my Ps), the turbo thing only came in july last year yes, but considering these cars are "street cars" I don't see why you even need to have a super/turbo charger, they are only changing this law for the better...It's not like their changing every single back dated law.
And all comments about other states, was only really referring to Vic, not sure what other states laws are...stupid that each state has their own laws...
stuff this - if they're serious about road safety, perhaps they could introduce a slightly different licensing system? introduce a high power and low power vehicle license?
Thereby to drive anything with over X kw/Y tonnes, you need to pass an IQ test and a car control test? regardless of how old you are
Not everyone can drive a high performance car comfortably - just like not everyone could drive a B-double comfortably - so why not have a different license?
I believe the age old saying is "Ban low performance drivers, not high performance cars"
stop them from doing what? Not paying attention to their surroundings? street racing? doing burnouts? ram-raiding? running from cops? avoiding booze busses? running down a group of krishnas in one massive GOURANGA spec hit? doing handbrakies? speeding?
All of the above things can be done REGARDLESS Of the amount of power your car has (although you might be better off with a bit more power if you're running down krishnas, although they are pretty light). As proven by the amount of tools in civics and corollas and lancers that are getting impounded in NSW
All my licensing system is proposing/trying to prove, is that if a young kid crashes his 400rwkw car, because he'd smoked way too much meth and was out of it, it shouldn't get blamed on the power of the car(presuming he had his 'high powered car' license )

Whoever writes these articles really don't know much about the subject, so many points have been proven against their silly article argument.
And as for the sob story stupid article below the main one;
- I'm sure that if they had banned high-powered cars for P platers - this f*ckwit would have decided that a change of plans would be in order, and instead stolen a hyundai excel, and made it to his destination SAFE AND SOUND."A 17-year-old drunk, driving a stolen car with a 14-year-old passenger, hit me head-on,'' Mr Hewson said.
makes me laugh because they think its going to change anything, you can still rip the streets up in a 6
