    Default ps3 owners

    hey guys
looking to buy a ps3, need some help though, there only stocking the 80 gb models in the shops and their a bit to expensive for me atm, but found some new 40gb ones on ebay for a good price, is it worth saving for the extra 40gb? how much space do saved files take up? and is it true that u have to load games onto your harddrive just to play them? im not planning on putting anything else onto the harddrive except for saved games files.
    Cheers!

I have theold one and there are a few games that store updates and add-ons but nothing that you would use 40gig for. I think the biggest was for Pro street and was around 750MB so i guess even if all games put that much you'd still get around 40-50 games stored on there. Just be wary of buying from ebay as you may have warrenty issues if something were to go wrong...I have had mine since xmas last year and had no problems. Also remember that the 80G come with dual shock controls which are worth $100 alone

Just the six axis one. Has no vibrate function. Don't quote me on the new one having one but i definetly saw it advertised somewhere, I'm not 100% sure that sony released them with the dual shock or not. But if i was in your situation i would probably just wait a little longer and get the 80G with some sort of bundle pack from JB or EB (they don't mind helping you out if you ever have warrenty issues)

I was enquiring about buying a ps3 yesterday as part of my christmas present for me & the gf, the newest ps3's do not support ps1 & ps2 games which is a big bummer, still overpriced & the gaming technique is still exactly the same as the original ps1- just with better graphics.

If you want my advise after playing a ps3, xbox360 & a nintendo wii, the wii wins by far in my books. Something i noticed with the wii is that with the 'better' games such as need for speed pro street, the graphics are MUCH better than the wii sports which puts alot of people off. For interactivity the nintendo is way ahead the only thing xbox & sony has going for them is a massive hdd & better graphics.

I have the PS3 80gb. The reason I wanted the 80gb was because I got told it has PS2 compatibility while the 40gb doesn't. But looking at my box now ... it says "Important, Playstation 2 format software titles do not perform on this system." well thats a bummer lol. I haven't tried a PS2 game because I don't have any XD But I didnt like the final fantasy series I have the AU3 CECHK02 model.

Get the new 80gigger, its cheaper then the 40g ones were when I bought mine anyway, and you get the Duelshock Controller which is good. Get the 80 mate.

buy the 80gig from a proper retailer where you're given a sales reciept for proof of purchase and insures a valid warranty - your only asking for trouble buying electrical goods from somewhere like ebay.
as for the whole games saving to the hard drive thing, its only a few and its nothing to stress about. some titles load a certain amount of data onto the hard drive to dramatically reduce loading times in-game. this is usually just with big titles and can be anywhere from 1-4gig usually and if you need the space later on it can easily be deleted from the hard drive after your finished. i think one of the biggest game downloads ive had was devil may cry 4, it loaded 4gig or so of data, most load about 2gig.

the compatability thing - ALL ps3 models can play psone games (but why the hell would you want to??) but only the 60gig had the ps2 software emulator which could play the majority of ps2 titles (but not all) and to be honest - seeing how it emulated the ps2 titles it was done pretty ordinary, i just kept my ps2 instead.

just to touch on vnv8driver's post, the ps3 and x360 are in a whole other league than the wii. the type of games available on wii are in the majority of cases family orientated with the basis being to get people off the couch and interacting. dont get me wrong the wii is great fun, especially with groups of people, but its not comparible to ps3 and x360 - they're intended for completely different types of games and gaming experiences.
as for the graphics, a wii is pretty much a suped-up gamecube with accelerometers in the controllers and a motion sensor, the resolution its capable of is pretty poor by anyones standards today - but it was never intended to be a "flash looking" console, just alot of fun and interactivity.

as for the overpriced comment - i think the price of a ps3 is quite resonable considering the hardware it has inside it, a blu-ray player alone is around the cost of a ps3 and all it can do is play blu-ray media. for what your getting, the ps3 is the best value out of all consoles on the market in terms of a real "gamers console".
the x360 is a noisey brick with an outdated driver and little to no difference in available game titles from the ps3 (although a x360 is almost worth buying dispite all its cons just to play GOW2 and a few other console specific titles) and the wii is extremely overpriced - having been at its current rrp for years! if it wasn't for the huge demand they should/would have dropped in price considerably by now.

i probably sound quite biased, but i cant help it that the ps3 is my favourite of the bunch (i own all consoles) - in my opinion for my tastes it simply ticks all the right boxes and has almost no negatives unlike the others, its hard not to like the ps3.
