Default Sedan to ute conversions - does anyone remember?

Some of the old skool members might recall that a few years ago there was a thread about a company who was doing conversions on sedans and turning them into 2 door utes. I think it was posted about 3 or so years ago.

I remember on the website there was a picture of a VT XU6 that had been converted. It looked pretty wrong and I think everyone said it sucked.

Anyway, if anyone remembers (or can find the thread) post it up.

dont remeber sedans been converted, i do remember the wagons though, and they where pre-crewman, so that would make them about 5 years old atleast

Nup, it was definatly sedans. Just imagine a sedan with a ute tray coming out of where the boot should be.

I have a book somewhere in piles of **** in storage about VT's turning into crewman like utes. Pretty ugly. Maybe another one on cutting backs off to make a ute. But i don't recall anything else.

I think the mob building those bastardised VT's was based not far from where I used to work at Boolaroo in Newcastle. This would have been around 2001/2002, You would drive past and see VT sedans from bonnet to rear window, then a ute tray instead of a boot. They were also making VT one tonners before the factory made them. The one-tonners looked fine as the cabin was cut off about the B pillar and closed in, with a flat bed installed. The four door utes though, looked bloody odd.

I'll have to search for that book and maybe scan them up.

There used to be a company in Newcastle as others have said called The New One Tonner Company. They used to have a website, newonetonner.com.au or something like that, though sadly I can't seem to find it anymore.

I remember seeing a Hatchback Torrie turned into a ute before... It looked really cool !!!

Also seen a VK Stepside 1 tonner and an EJ 4 Door Crewman... I liked the EJ the best.

Hot damn...never thought I'd ever say this, but thats the toughest Gemini I've ever seen! I wonder how easy it was to get the Ecotec in there though...never seen a Gemini's engine bay up close before, but I can't imagine there being that much room in there.

Would fit quite easily with a V motor. A Straight 6 on the other hand, you'd be sharing the cabin with 2 cylinders.

I know a couple of guys who (for shts and giggles) decided to put a spare 350 in a Gem and use it as a burn out car. First time I saw heard the car my first thought was that they needed to put the exhaust back on (cos it was noisy as hell)!
