OK, last night we had a record post over the ACA "hoon" segment. Within two hours, the post had reached 13 pages. There was talk of it being closed, but even the moderators commented that they were prepared to let it go because it was entertaining. Suddenly, it's gone.
Now, the post had a lot of derogatory comment about one of the forum members who participated in the television segment. Perhaps somebody went too far, but can we please have some explanation as to why it was dumped? And why a separate post, suggesting a poll that the members be banned, also was dumped?
I read the posts up till they reached page 13, left the forum for about half an hour, and came back to find no trace of either thread.
Did somebody go too far with their comments about the individuals, or did the internet police just decide that it was their duty to rid the forum of such undesirable content?
If the reason was the nature of the insults and the fact that they continued unabated for over an hour, they must have worsened whilst I was away from the forum. Did some dips**t overstep the mark?
It was an entertaining thread, if only for the wit shown by certain members. The two "offenders" admitted they were setting themselves up for a fall, but continued to respond to certain posts. Is this an example of overzealous censorship or was the thread's removal appropriate and justified?
And please, don't refer me to the rules and guidelines regarding abusing members/moderators/neighbour's cat or whatever - those guidelines were overstepped by page three. So what was the real reason?
Yes it went too far. I commented I found it entertaining watching the member trying to dig himself out of a hole. The relentless fat jokes took it too far, and were breeching our rules. Fair enough comment on the stupidity of the burnouts but a persons weight has nothing to do with it. There was enough ammo there without denegrating to fat jokes. The thread was being linked to several other forums and quite frankly it was an embarrassment so I stepped in and removed it before more damage was done to this forums reputation. I was trying to close it down earlier but my net was dropping out all night.
