    Default Problems with my Civic

Hey, I know it's commodore site, but I have a problem with my Civic and I'm sure it's something that most cars cold have a problem with....

Well it only started a few days ago, but the accelerator cable has been taking too long to spring back....I put my foot down, take foot off accelerator and it continues to accelerate for about 10-15 seconds...

I have put WD40 on the cable inside the car, and around the spring area, but it still seems to be doing it...

Does anyone know what the problem could be, or had a similar/same problem with another car?

lol...yeah but I'm not sure "what" has gotten looser :S is the cable playing up, or the spring, or something else :S If I press on the accelerator and then go to the front of the car I can see "that part" still turning...

Sounds like the throttle body is staying open.

    1) disconnect the accelerator cable from the throttle spindle
    2) disconnect the kickdown cable from the throttle spindle
    3) turn the throttle spindle and see if it sticks open by itself
    4) put your foot on the accelerator in the car and see if it sticks down by itself
    5) pull the kickdown cable and see if it springs back quickly

That should find your problem. You can diagnose from there

maybe I should find someone that knows what they are doing I'd rather not disconnect anything and not be able to put it back on...There isn't even room to put my hand

what model civic? is it a carby or efi motor?

get some nulon carbie clean, its a spray can and clean the throttle butterfly if efi, these can get gummed up abit.

haven't seen these problems on honda's much, there ussualy pritty good.

oh ok, id say its carby then, it'll have an air filter box and air intake on the right hand side of the engine bay to the throttle body if efi, or a rectangle metal airbox on the back of the motor with intake pipe of it if carby.

    where abouts are you located?
there's Robert Lane Honda, very good there, they can also pick up if required 9563-9999
speak to clive in service, he'll be able to help if you want to send it there.

    Oh, so it's a carby???

Should be a very simple fix mate, assuming it's something to do with the cable/throttle.

I would try and explain something, but I am way too tired and can't think straight.

Maybe post some pics, this way we can tell if it is carby or not, and we can maybe label a diagram/image of it for you.

if it happens again, spray the fan belt with the wd40 instead.
You put you left foot in, your put your right foot in , you take your left foot out and you slide it all about!

fan belt? the car started fine and belt span fine...It was the accelerator spring section that needed spraying...
