Hello,
Just wondering what the penalties for driving an unregistered vehicle are in Victoria.
Cheers!
Well I'd have to say #1 would be "bad luck" there are plenty of people driving around un reg...
I'd say yo would get a big fine, license penalties (loss for a while or demerit points), and probably take your car for a while...
Not sure on the details, I'll find out exactly for ya in about an hour. BUt I do know the fine alone is more than rego. I'd just pay the rego.

Tomorrow doesn't look good either.
God must love stupid people, He made so many.
fine, demerit points & you'd need to get rego quick smart afterwards. Not worth it; it'll end up costing double/tripple more than the rego itself would
$500 fine and maybe 3 points

If I had the money I would get the car roadworthy and registered in an instant, I guess I'll just wait it out.
its not worth the risk cahnces are you'll get away with for a bit but sooner or later you'll get done especially if you drive it on weekend or at night

Its pretty much the cost of Rego anyway...
If your car is unroadworthy doesnt mean it cant be registered, just means you cant change the ownership over.
Think yourselves lucky, in SA its an automatic court appearance, where theres no set penalty, just whatever the judge feels like giving you.

^^576 reasons not to drive unregistered!
wow its gone up. its says 5 penalty points do you think thats the same as dermit points???

It also says "5 penalty units" I have no idea what that means. So thats an added bonus to the penalty. However i dont think it is demirts. When we looked at penalty units its equivilant to fines etc.

They arent demerits they are a nifty way to say "fine".
A penalty unit is a little more than $110.
So the penalty of driving an unregoed vechile is 5 penalty units.
I think there are also demerits. That PDF doesnt show the Demerits.

Demerit Point Offences : VicRoads
It's just all about the judge...you could get a good judge, or a bad judge works with anything you go to court for...
With cop fines, it is all fixed...they can't change points or price of a fine...
Yeah but judges have minimums and maxiums. The minimum will be slightly less than what the copper will give out, the maximum will be much higher. If you loose your case, its more than likely you gonna get your arse handed to you, merely because you wasted the courts time. Depends on the case ive been in heaps of court cases where the judge has given a lenient sentence because he didnt like the prosecuting coppers attitude.
Moral of the story: pay your damn rego.
*goes out and....* wait a minute, I still have 4 months![]()
Yeah true that's why i said sometimes its better going to court. No demerits is stupid there should be atleast 3 points.
