Why do people tail gate??

This ****s me so much, When someone does it to me and they can eaisily overtake i get really annoyed. Anyway.

Things i will do to you if you tailgate me:

1. I will slow down to about 20 under then when you go to over take me, I will speed up.

2. I will pull over, then tailgate you untill you get home then drive past your house 2/3 times, then get on the phone while parked outside your house to make it look like im calling people.

3. If you happen to pull up behind me at lights, i will pull the breaker bar out of the back seat and hang it out the window, just for warning.

4. Slam my brakes on.

5. Or pull my finger at you, yell at you, and if im not in the statesman, I will most likley hit and run you.

And now you know.

I tail gate sometimes. Whenever I'm driving from Geelong-Melbourne, vice versa (100kmh highway with 4 lanes), there's usually some idiot going 90kmh in the right lane. I'll set my cruise to 100kmh.

When there's a bit of traffic it's not always easy to go around him and tail gating is often the only option to get them to move ASAP.

Also, when it's a one lane 60 zone and people are travelling more along the lines of 40kmh for no good reason, a tailgate will give a carry on.

99% of the time it's not justified, but under the above conditions it's effective and usually the only option.

If you really do all of the above, it's only a matter of time before you get dropped.

people in a hurry to get nowhere and save a few minutes.
the other day i was driving through carrum downs and a lady had been up my ass for ages, when the road opened up to two lanes she pulled onto the left lane and sped past, a little further up the road i saw a bright flash from a parked car on the side of the road(this was at night mind you.) and when i pulled up at the lights i kindly thanked her for pointing out the position of that speed camera.

I'm on my L's and have found that every man, woman and their dogs wants to sit up my ass no matter what speed I'm doing. I will either:

1. Speed up to show that I'm not going to slow (+5 or 10 of the speed limit)
2. Slow to about 30kmp/h just to annoy the person tailing
3. Let it go and get in the lane closer to the front of the cue at the lights knowing that the person tailing me is now another 3 cars back.

I hate tailgaters and I always seem to find at least 2 just on the 10min trip to school.

Speeding by 1km/h over the limit is illegal. Clogging up the right lane on a 100km/h freeway is illegal. Driving at such a slow speed that you're obstructing traffic is illegal.

It's a shame Australian drivers are taught so poorly. The more advanced Asian countries have better drivers than the ones here. Just about every developed country has much more courteous and knowledgeable drivers for sure. Pretty much everywhere there is a faster lane, people don't feel compelled to drive slow in the fast lane, here most don't even know it's a "keep left" lane.

To any cork soakers who travel at 90kmh in a 100 zone in the right lane in the absence of traffic. I wish I could shoot you. There's rarely any reason to travel slow in the right lane, unless you think it's your job to make sure everyone wipes off 10.

I would definitely think that if police started enforcing keep left, the amount of tailgaters would reduce significantly.

same goes as other people when im sitting on the high way in the right like going 100 i expect to be able to consistently go 100 not less not more so when i have a retard pull in front of me and go slow i feel compelled to go up there ass. I also noticed when on learners people feel compelled to go up my ass and im always around 5 ks above the limit now that im on p's most ppl back off, then i get other ppl think just coz im in an old car its crap so i just put my boot down for a few seconds to prove i could speed if i want.

Tailgaiting is annoying and dangerous, I agree, but I imagine most of us have got better things to do than intimidate people.

Just move out of their way and grow up.

I'm all for slowing down and tapping the brakes so they get the hint, but i don't slam on the brakes. As with speeding up when they overtake, i have no need to worry about what their doing. If i'm doing the speed limit, by all means, break the law and make it obvious by going around me.

I tailgate, but not cars, i keep my distance from them, I travel in drafts of the trucks on long trips. But i'm in contact with the truck driver and usually talk to them so they're fine with it.

I usually just keep driving as I was but rest my foot lightly on the brake pedal if it's a single lane road. The tailgaters seem to get the message after a while.

I thought I was going to cop some tailgating this morning when some goose in a VX came racing up right behind me in a 60 zone, but he overtook me on a blind corner and disappeared.
