Sad, Sad, Sad...
Two women are dead and a man is in a critical condition after a three-car collision on the Melbourne-Lancefield Road in Clarkefield, near Sunbury, this afternoon.
Police believe a red Toyota Corolla travelling north was overtaking a blue Toyota Echo, also travelling north, when the incident occurred.
It appears the red Toyota Corolla clipped an oncoming yellow Mazda. The yellow Mazda then spun and hit the blue Toyota Echo.
The driver of the red Toyota Corolla, a 70-year-old woman and the sole occupant of the car, escaped serious injury.
The 61-year-old woman driving alone in the blue Toyota Echo died at the scene of the accident. The 45-year-old woman travelling in the yellow Mazda also died at the scene.
A man, in his 30s, who was the only passenger in the yellow Mazda was airlifted to The Alfred suffering life threatening injuries.
The incident occurred 400 metres south of Konagaderra Rd.
The Major Collision Investigation Unit is investigating.
The Melbourne-Lancefield Road is closed in both directions and police expect the road to remain closed for a number of hours.
Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000; or visit www.crimestoppers.com.au.
When will the government start cracking down on these incompetent drivers? Overtaking a car is not a hard practice, but to clip a the car you are overtaking is a downright joke.
Surely there has been enough accidents of late to warrant a massive crackdown on these death drivers.
If it is enough to lose a licence over a burnout in an industrial estate, surely incompetent driving should be enough to have a car impounded and a licence suspended.
Condolences to the families who have lost loved ones in this horrific accident.
I think it's time I do what goon the hoon fanfare going and creating a site in where video's, comments etc can be posted regarding incompetnent old farts, maybe then the government will take action.

I thought about getting a camera on the dash to video all the oldies i seem to encounter on pension day, but figured nothing will happen anyway. Cops would much rather be defecting P platers cars.

Nothing is worth getting there sooner, if there is the possibility that you are going to kill someone. Stupid driver has made a fatal mistake and will now hopefully pay for it.

I can almost garuntee that the elderly driver will walk away without a conviction, and her drivers license still valid. Such is the justice system in this country.

this is pretty effed up sad to see other people hurt and the culprit walks away from the accident, happends all to often, i do hope the drive of the corolla gets a licence suspention atleast but i dont see it happning.....
Licence suspension? at 70 years of age and to cause something like this they shouldn't be allowed to drive again.
I was behind an ederly man today driving in a 100km zone who was wandering into the lane next to him and couldnt maintain his car in a straight line. If i didnt know it was an old person i could have sworn he was drunk in fact he might have been. The worse part was he didnt even take notice of the car along side me in the other lane. It as if he was in his own little world and no ones else was on the road. I'm just glad enough other driver pay attention to the road an avoid these ticking time bombs

The same thing nearly happened to my dad last night...There has to be tougher policing out there...There always seems to be no police around when you need them...but they are around and pulling you over when your busy and you have done nothing wrong...

Stuff like this once again highlights the fact our driving "test" is too basic AND that there is a need for people to re-sit a test every say 2 - 3 years.
I was watching the latest topgear (the read top gear not the oz one) and they send James May to Finland to do some driving with Mika Hakkinen (correct my spelling).
Their driving test puts them through some real car control.
The system here is a joke...
In Finland, the car driver's training can be obtained either in a private driving school or given by a near relative who has a driver's licence. If the person is trained by a relative, the relative must obtain a special instructor's permit and have a car fitted and inspected with an extra set of brake pedals for the front passenger. The training for B class licence requires 30 hours of instructed driving, including a spell on a slippery driving course, and 20 theory lessons. After this, the person must pass a computerized theory test and a driving test in city traffic with a minimum length of 30 minutes. C class training is similar, but longer.
The initial licence is issued for two years. During this time, the new driver may receive a maximum of two traffic fines in total. If the number of fines is exceeded, the licence is revoked and the driver is required to re-take the exam. Even with one fine, the interim period may be extended for a maximum of two years. During the interim period, the new driver must pass a short refresher course, which includes a slippery driving course, and participate in dark time driving training, unless this was part of the initial training. (Finnish lighting conditions prevent the dark time training during summer.)
The motorcycles are divided in three categories. Anyone born before 1985 may drive a moped. Persons born in 1985 or after may obtain a moped driver's licence at the age of 15. This requires passing a simple computerized theory exam. The A1 licence, allowing the use of light motorbikes, may be obtained at the age of 16. The practical training is done independently in traffic after a training permit has been obtained from the police. Theoretical training includes 12 theory lessons. A person who has A1 licence can get a full A licence after holding the A1 for two years. After the age of 21, a person can obtain the A licence directly, without holding an A1 licence first.
The use of tractors and motorized sleighs is allowed for anyone with a valid B class licence. However, it is possible to obtain the T class licence for these vehicles already at the age of 15 by passing a simple theory exam.

You don't kill do people and just get away with a slap on the wrist. There is procedure to be followed. Do you think the victims families would just sit there and say "oh well, she's old so fair enough she killed our loved ones, we'll just let it rest". They'd be all over the ass of the police if they didn't press charges.
Think of the precedent? If they let this old biddie get away with it, the next time a P-plater wipes out a family in a head-on, he can cite this a precedent and walk too.
The sentence will probably be lenient, but the charge would still have to be the Victorian equivalent of negligent driving, or dangerous driving - depending on the circumstances. In NSW it's at least 18 months suspension, maximum is uncapped. Jail up to 2 years for negligent, 10 for dangerous.
She'll claim she was suffering a mental illness at the time and walk.
Theres no comeback the familys could possible have, otherwise the one that happened here a while ago would be locked up, not still driving after he killed the inoocent guy (he was only a 30yo tho, not 70)

I have notcied overtaking has become the new thing. My street has 2 lanes only. And all the time of late i see cars passing others to the right. IT's harder this way as there is a slight blind spot. This doesn't seem to matter to them.
We need anger management courses. We can all get there in once peace if we stay charm. To many get frustrated and angry because the car in front is 1kph under the limit or even on it.
