Default Mark Webber Hit by car whilst cycling

    From the Daily telegraph

Webber, who drives for Formula One's Red Bull team, was cycling along a road near Port Arthur, on the Tasman peninsula, when he collided with a Nissan X-Trail car and was knocked off his bike.

The 32-year-old was competing in his own charity event, the Mark Webber Pure Tasmania Challenge, a 250km event using mountain bikes, kayaks and trekking, when the accident happened, around 12.40pm (AEDT).

Event director Geoff Donohue said he could not confirm "speculative reports'' that Webber had suffered multiple arm and leg fractures until doctors had had a chance to properly diagnose the sports star.

"It would appear he's suffered a fractured leg but until doctors confirm the extent of Mark's injuries, we won't know for sure - it's still early days,'' Mr Donohue said. "Mark's in good spirits. Paramedics attached to the event attended to Mark very swiftly and he's had really good treatment at the scene before being transferred to hospital. It was a really unfortunate accident.''

Mr Donohue said it was far too early to say whether the accident would impact on Webber's pre-season training for the 2009 Formula One racing season.

"That's jumping ahead a bit. He would certainly have other ideas about that. Right now, it's a wait and see situation,'' Mr Donohue said. "If any positives come out of this, you'd fully expect him (Webber) to be ready and willing, not only for his pre-season requirements with Red Bull Racing but also for the Formula One season proper.''

A Tasmania Police spokesman said Fortesque Bay Road, on which the accident happened, was a public route but added he did not know if the section was cordoned off for the event.

"The event is raced in a few stages and this part where the accident happened was the cycling stage,'' Sergeant Jon Ford said. "As a result of the collision, the rider Mark Webber suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries. He was attended at the scene by paramedics attached to the event before being airlifted to the Royal Hobart Hospital.''

The male driver of the Nissan X-trail escaped injury, he added. Webber was competing on the penultimate day of the five-day challenge, which also includes abseiling and whitewater rafting.
Not good news for mark and his formula 1 career just another event in his bad luck.

No not good news at all.

Broken legs can be a real tough injury to heal. But he's in top shape as is most F1 drivers.

I once herd Webber was only man on the track. All cars has smashed off and all he had to do was Finnish that lap. The powers that be handed the win to the guy he passed before he crashed off starting the chain reaction. Leader on the lap before the accident... I think he eat a few black cats.

lol that sounds like Dick Johnson at Bathurst in 1992 don't you think when Skaife and Richards stacked the Nissan into the wall before it was red flagged, I still remember Jim Richards calling everyone in Australia a pack of ********s, what a nut job. I will admit a few flying cans of beer might have knocked the sense out of him before he made that statement

I find it quite immature that everyone is making a joke out of this, would you find it funny if you were the person hit by a car? I dont think so. Fair enough, bag him on the race track if you like but he is out there racing in top level motorsport and he wouldn't be there if he wasnt a good driver in fact i'd say he's a better driver than alll the internet experts on here.
I can't beleive that you'd be making light of the serious acccident he's been in. I hope next time one of your family members or friends is in a serious accident you post it up so i can make fun of their situation.

Sure he's been in a crash, but its just a broken leg. He's not at risk of dying.

He hasn't done anything with the chances he's been given, so of course he'll score a bad rep.

Chances he's been given?? What are they? You can't go into motorsport and expect to jump into a car and win. You can't put it all on the driver. There are extremely good drivers in F! that finish outside of the top ten in most of their races these people have previously been at the top finishing on pole and coming close if not winning F1 world championship.
So now all of a sudden they're no good because they're BAr honda red bull or some other team thats not mercedes mclaren of ferarri??

Vettel has shown what his current car is capable of.
He hasn't set the world on fire, ever. A few good qualifying results, only to end up almost last everytime, then to crash out. The team is not ****, M Webber is compared to the other drivers around him.

And yes, you can walk into F1 and be at the top, Or Did you not notice this years WDC?

Hmm lets remember japan last year? when mark webber was in second or third and vettel ran up his arse and wrote both cars off? Also the 2 red bull team arent the same Vettels car run a ferarri engine compared to webbers renualt engine its been proven all year that the ferarri powered red bull is leagues ahead in speed and power.
Hamilton is a good driver but he's also in the best car out on the track david coulthard has less points than webber yet when he drove for mercedes he was 3rd in the WDC?
Having the right team and car makes a huge difference between coming 10th and coming 1st

Indeed Vettel did. But thats why they call its a rookie mistake. Webber has been there years and years, and vettel has already shown him up in a back marker car.

No thats right - he had an almost team mate run into the back of him under safety car when in second position. He was catching the bloke in front and was a good chance to win.

Look at how many drivers that have been in the second and third level teams an not won a race. Soooooo many of them did not even last a season.

F1 is about the top 3 or 4 teams winning. They have all the money to play with and SHOULD win most of the races.

I feel no shame in supporting Mark Webber to the max in his F1 drive and will support the next Aussie to replace him in years to come.

Come on you fellas stop bagging a true Aussie superstar.

Gentleman Jim. I think he was having a go at the Ford fans for not being able to read the rule books. He should have realised they simply can't read.
