new years eve
Its almost that time of year again and me and couple mates are going to wollongong for a week over new years. Apparently new years isnt so great at the gong so was thinking of getting a train up to syd for new years eve. Just worried about getting train back because im guessing there are going to be 1000s of people with same idea. Has anyone done this trip and would recommend it?

From the city its like 2.5 hour train trip to Wollongong, and unless you leave right at midnight, it's an absolute nightmare to get trains out of the city unless you plan to stay in there until at least 6 or 7am.Originally Posted by coolvncommodore
My advice would be to hire a hotel room just outside the city, and catch a cab back afterwards... Then drive back in the morning. If you've got 5 or 6 mates, it wouldn't cost much more than your train fare back to the gong.
And yes, wollongong is boring at the best of times, let alone new years eve.

well said, the gong is a hole, unless you go to the uni bar and mention you a have a full time job, for some reason the girls love it
just get a ticket to shore thing or harbour party, the time you leave that, get some maccas, the trains will almost be running again, then have a nice sleep on the train
I like visiting wollongong now and then, I dont mind some of the clubs on wed fri n sat nights. But yeah i have heard the new years is pretty average
