G'day Fella's.
Newby member here. Didn't know where else to post, If I missed something obvious feel free to flame, I probabaly deserve it.
Any who, I'm looking to get myself into a 2005 VZ SS in the very near future.
Current car is a 1998 Subaru Liberty. Over this thing for sure.
I've always been a Holden fan, although some of the 1990's attempts have been a little poor in my opinion.
But the Vy -Vz series as well as the new VE's have really taken my fancy. The Interiors look to be very nice indeed.
I've only ever had expirence with the old carbied 308's in the past. And I know the last aussie 5ltr died out, what, 8 - 9 years ago now.
So I'm not terribly familiar with the LS1's or LS2's. The Vz I'm keen on has the 5.7, which I'm presuming is the LS1?
I've driven an Adventra which had a bit of go about it, Being AWD I would presume the RWD sedan would have even more poke. Which I rather like the idea of.
How responsive to Modifications are the LS1's?
Im talking minor things like and new exhaust system, CAI (Cold air induction) and possibly a retune. (Depending on how possible that is, are these cars OBDII compliant?).
With these sorts of mods, Whats a realistic power output expectation?
Anyway, enough ramblings for now. Hope to see you guys around some time.
Cheers for any help.
Giday soop and welcome.
Nice choice of ride, but i'm bias i guess!
A good tune and cai will get you good results on the dyno. After that cams are the go.
Yes, the ls1 is the 5.7 ltr. but if i were you i'd be looking at a 2006 MY06 vz ss, they have the 6 litre in them.
This Particular car is smack bang in my price range, and has quiet low Km's.
So I'm pretty happy with it.
I don't need to be a HP hero or anything.
Whats a realistic power figuer for the LS1?
More to the point what do the manage standard?
Depends, some differ slightly from others.
Mine was pulling only 166 rwkw but i had a dodgy plug when it ran first time, usually stock ones will run around the 190 mark.
mine last run a 212.3 rwkw on the dyno, that's with a very basic tune, k & n filter, cat back exhaust and a set of hm shorties.
That sounds pretty reasonable. Considering to get 50kw@w out of a Subaru will cost you about $1500-$2000....
Remembering for a minute that I'm a retarded n00b. What are HM Shorties?
Headers, replace the stock manifolds. If you want better proformance you need to really go the whole set up. Hi flow cats and longer headers are the go for better proformance.
My tune cost $500. As i said this is a basic tune, i was only after fuel economy with this tune, not really power so if you want extra go mafless tune with your cai will net you better proformance than mine by quite a way.
check this thread out, will tell you everything you need to know.

Also don't be afraid to shoot questions at Brad from enhanced automotive, he's a sponser of the forum and you'll find him in the sponsers section, very helpful.
Thanks for your help Juzo, its much appreciated.
The plan was to to replace the exhaust with something a little more auraly pleasing.
I'm guessing the 2.5" twin systems will surfice?
In regards to the tuning.
Are the ECU's used in the VZ's OBDII compliant?
If so, has anyone used programs like ECUEDIT and the like to do some DIY tuning?
I've played with it on some WRX's and such. Nothing to it.
My Initail plans were to open the intake a little and put a nice (efficient yet quiet) exhaust on it.
Any major issues I should avoid while doing these things?
EDIT: Jesus there's some reading to be done here.![]()
Had a change of heart.
Investigating a VE SS ute....
33k on road is effing tempting...
