I was behind a car travelling towards a roundabout yesterday. This car in front didn't even attempt to slow down at the roundabout. I was already looking towards the right anticipating that this bloke in front had already checked and it was clear.
Trouble was there was another motorist also entering the roundabout from the right and also not slowing down. Both these idiots met square on in the middle. They were both travelling at about 20/25 kphs so the damage was significant.
Who is in the wrong?
guy in front of you for not giving way to the right. im guessing you stopped in time not to hit anyone?

GUY in front but there both idiots for not checking and anticipating what each would do
Generally cars need to give way to those already on the roundabout. If two or more cars arrive at the same time (or nearly the same time), then the basic give way to your right rule would apply and thus the car in front of you may be in a lot of trouble.
Reaper
That's the trouble with roundabouts; there isn't a give way to the right rule. Although most people assume that there is and that's why people on the right generally just fly through them and other folks just ususally give way to them...
Yeah, I stopped in time. Thanks for asking![]()
Yeah the guy in front of you. In QLD the douchebags turn right from the left hand lane and almost wipe me out at least once a week. then give you this dumb blank stare when you tell them how to use a roundabout.
Always give way to your right....
But at what speed was the person on the right entering??? thats where the law can get you.
dont worry, il start a ride thread soon.
As per the Australian Road Rules:
114 Giving way when entering or driving in a
roundabout
(1) A driver entering a roundabout must give way to:
(a) any vehicle in the roundabout; and
(b) a tram that is entering or approaching the roundabout.
Offence provision.
Note 1 Tram is defined in the dictionary.
Note 2 For this rule, give way means the driver must slow down and, if
necessary, stop to avoid a collision — see the definition in the
dictionary

It's implicit, any vehicle on the right of you is technically in the roundabout before you, or will be. That is unless they are speeding through the roundabout and you pull out infront of them, in either case whoever is on the right would be deemed to be on the roundabout first.
Good luck arguing in a court that you were on the roundabout first when someone plows into the side of you and excessive speed was not a determining factor.
