YouTube - David Pardy - Alien Hip Hop
The song is called Alien Hip Hop by On the Virg.
I know it goes out of time in a couple of parts, but that's not actually me going out of time. Long story, couldn't be bothered explaining
Anyway, the whole point in doing the video is I'm trying to get my name out there, so if you know anyone who needs a drummer for recording, etc., feel free to drop my name! I'm based on the Central Coast in NSW
OK, you posted this on a public forum so i have no issue in providing feedback.
It needs work, especially if you want to get into recording man. It would have been better to provide some more generic set in different times so you can show your range. The best parts of the drumming where when you were keeping time basically.
The first part with the double kick was fairly average.. may just be the sink with the music but didn't sell it to me at all really.
Your end set improv. is good, you have the ability to make use of a full kit which is great but if you want to name drop i would highly suggest you use a more generic set to get out there.
Have a look at anything from travis from blink182. That man is a ****ing legend on the kit.
aZk.
Ok then, as soon as you mentioned Travis Barker your comments became irrelevant :P.
Just FYI, the main 'riff' through the song is a 16th note pattern transposed into 8th note triplets. The pattern is "R LR LR LR LRLR " and 'resolves' every four bars. It's a MUCH harder pattern to play than anything I've ever heard Travis do, and I could play everything on Enema of the State note for note in 2000 when I'd only been playing for three years. He's only a legend because of the amount of publicity he's gained, he's the best 'popular' drummer out there, but he's in no way a great. Try guys like Virgil Donati (the author of the song I played), Vinnie Colaiuta, Dave Weckl, Steve Gadd, Pete Drummond, Chris Brien, Gavin Harrison, Mike Mangini, Thomas Lang, Marco Minneman.. The list goes on, and Travis doesn't even get a mention.
NEEDS MORE COWBELL!!!
na, ya sound really good man, you should have no problem finding someone to record with. Just don't overkill, our last drummer was awesome but he just made it too technical and it ended up sounding like ****.
Travis from Blink 182? Are you serious azkazere? At least list someone with some talent! Someone like Danny Carey is a much better drummer to look up toTool - Danny Carey

Yeah I was just thinking afterwards, Danny Carey is probably the absolute best 'popular' drummer, but he's on a completely different level to Travis. He IS up there with the greats.
Thanks for the props Bezz! That song took me 8 weeks of rehearsal to get it right a few months back, but it got me into the Billy Hyde Playoffs!
I thought it sounded good, but at least on the recording it did sound out of sync, maybe like you say because it's a complex beat, but at the end of the day that's how it sounded.
You've got some talent though, good luck with it![]()
It definitely went out of sync, I'm going to do a recording of Dumpweed by Blink 182 this afternoon and I'll try and do all the recording and editing on the same computer with the same MP3 to make sure that it's definitely not me. I've borrowed a work laptop which has XP on it (my laptop is a Pentium 2 266 with Windows 98) so I can use Windows Movie Maker to do the recording and to impose the backing track onto it, as I don't think I can record both my drumming and the backing track at the same time and get the balance right.
Now that I've got this web cam I'm probably going to be going nuts with recording videos of me playingI also have a couple of ideas in mind for doing some lessons as well.
But I'm planning on recording these songs as well:
Dumpweed by Blink 182
Beyond This Life by Dream Theater
King of Terrors by Symphony X
and maybe a couple of songs of me playing with my band, but not until we're established and nobody can steal the songs.
Taylor Hawkins all the way.
Sorry for the hijack.
Mate you need to drum with one hand and have the other drum stick up your ass with a spinning wheel on it. If you don`t make it with a band you will be welcome in a circus.
I`m kidding mate![]()

Here you go, here's take 2 of Dumpweed. I couldn't use Take 1 because my crash cymbal stand decided to bounce onto a bolt and start tipping over halfway through the song

Sorry to dig up an old thread but i would like to comment on travis. Ill admit that on Enema Of The State his drumming wasnt too technical or great but he shows his real skill when playing live. Travis is an extremely skilled drummer in his genre, not the best in the world but he is great at what he does. Heres a couple of videos from Japan's
summersonic festival in 2003 just before the release of their untitled album.

Travis is FAST.
That is all he has going for him. Listening to him play gets boring after the first couple of minutes and your videos didn't show me anything I've never seen. In fact to be perfectly honest, I've seen better than in both those videos you posted. Even in the newest videos of Travis I've seen, his playing is no different to that of 6 years ago. I would have thought he would have made a serious lot of progress, especially in the realm of linear patterns and drum and bass, but he hasn't.
I've never said that Travis was a bad drummer, but he is "just another drummer" with a big name and a lot of speed. Here is a couple of videos of a man named Derek Roddy, who can not only wipe the floor with Travis technique wise, but also speed wise with his hands AND feet.

I would rather listen to Jordan Burns of Strung Out, and Gordy from Frenzal Rhomb than listen to Travis. They're both on the same level as Travis, and I would say they're more musical and quite possibly better technically.
Please stop trying to tell me about Travis, I've been listening to him for a decade now and the same old arguments and videos are getting really old.

just letting everyone know my opinion and i also appreciate yours. each to their own ofcourse
Pity about the sync problems but hey not to bad... Good luck with your quest mate..
FTW Ian Pace of Deep Purple was one of the best drummers in the world back in the 70's. He was seriously fast and furious and just great to listen to
Not completely relevant, but not completely irrelevant. Either way came across this dude on youtube doing drum covers and I must say for self taught (and years of practice) he is fkn amazing! His vids also landed him sponsorship.

Thanks Ross
Azzfox - that guy was good, especially considering he's had no lessons.
mate dumpweed ....that was awesome love your work!!!
Thanks, but honestly, Dumpweed is very easy to play. That Alien Hip Hop video took about 3 months of solid work, and there's another video on there - 'Fallen' by Symphony X which also took a bit of work to perfect. YouTube - David Pardy playing drums to Fallen by Symphony X
Ok, so I did Anthem Part 2:
YouTube - David Pardy - Anthem Part 2 Drum Cover
Haven't played it in about 3 years, listened to it once then did three takes - this is the third take, I forgot how bits went on the first two takes.
There's a couple of bits which are off time, but I realised when editing the video that I listen to the vocals and instruments instead of the drums on the recording and because they don't have a solid attack on the timing it puts my timing off... I'll fix that for hte next video![]()
Dude,
firstly, Virgil Donati is a legend of all sorts.
For some of the sickest off time beats i've ever heard check out "song of solomon" "tempting time" and "thoroughly at home" by a band called "animals as leaders"
And lastly, derek roddy is quick as anything, but George Kollias (and i don't actually like Nile's music). Is by far the quickest i've heard
Thanks for the recommendation on Animals as Leaders, I'll check them out!!
The reason I mentioned Derek was because I've heard enough of him to be justified in commenting. Unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity (ie. I keep forgetting when I'm at home) to check out George Kollias. Hopefully I'll remember today
.
fair enough, George does a youtube video called "aeons of burning galaxies" which is pretty awesome.
And as i said, derek is a genius on his own merit
It does kinda suck that drummers and music groups that nobody has ever heard of are infinitely better than the crap on the radio these days.......
lol! cow bell pedal FTW!!!!!!!!!!
Haha!
Yeah, it's greatI do a bit of latin independence and it works out quite nicely
