Default Single mums robbing the tax payers - part 2

So I caught a glimpse of today tonight this evening where they had a segment on Kevin Rudd's Merry "Spend it" Christmas $1000 bonus.

They had a group of teenage mums (as young as 16 - incredible) being quizzed on what they'd spend it on.

I thought they'd say something like put it away in the bank, save it for the baby's future, put it toward daycare while they work part time, etc.

I was sadly mistaken. They replied that they'd spend the money on a new summer wardrobe, and even more remarkably - a holiday. One young lady even went so far as to say that there is no incentive to work because they get free money. She claimed to get $1,000 per fortnight.

Am I the only person who finds this a disgrace? These people are clearly on the low end of the intelligence scale if they think the world owes them a living because they've popped out a kid or five, and it's also clear that when they spend their $1000 Christmas bonus (that they only get because they were careless and got knocked up) , and their $26,000 welfare payment per year on clothes and smokes that us honest taxpayers will pick up the tab for additional welfare.

The same young lady I refer to above was even shown smoking on camera. Amazing. Firstly you'd think that they wouldn't smoke when bringing up a young child, but even more gut-wrenching is the fact that they're blowing my hard earned taxes on cigarettes.

    Disgraceful.

Tragically, the article isn't posted on their website yet, so I'll link to it when it appears.

Why do you thinkt hey are giving it to these people? If they give to people who have done something in life they wont see any of it back. The idea for is to spend spend spend. These people will do just that. It is a false prop up for the conomy. It really should be spent ion other places or saved for worse days.

I know if i was given it it would go straight to the bank lol.

I hear what you're saying. But ironically (or not) they are actually doing what Rudd wants them to do. That $1000 per child for a family on Tax benefit part B is intended to be spent on retail goods and services to keep the economy moving. The intention of the payment will be missed if people put that money into savings.

I'm not saying this is right. We'll be getting $1000 but it won't be used to buy tv's or any luxury items. We have a three month old and are doing it a bit tough at the moment. My wife works from home. I work a second job two afternoons/evenings a week. We pay a mortgage. We've got a ton of bills to pay and I need about $700 for major dental surgery by the end of the week.

Understand, but I suppose this particular event (the "spend it" one) just highlights the fundamental problem that these members of society have. They should be not be allowed to manage their own welfare payments.

On the up side, hopefully this will weed them out of the gene pool a little faster...

why does the government need us to spend it? why cant they spend it themselves, paying companies to fix roads and similar kind of things? it would ensure its spent that way wouldn't it, instead of risking it with people hoping that they dont save it.

and lol at a $1000 holiday. i suppose a holiday to those single mothers is a $10 train ticket from frankston to town and blowing the rest on alcohol

The money needs to be spread throughout the economy, to small businesses too. Government contracts go out to tender and usually get landed by big companies, which isn't really where the money needs to be spent to stimulate a slowing economy.

I hear what you're saying but all those stores employ a lot of young people. If sales drop off, those young people lose their jobs, unemployment rises, unemployed people have less money to spend... it's a cycle.

I had a young girl (she was 18) come through the servo buying smokes. She told me she had just come from hospital coz she's only just had a baby. I asked her why she was smoking if she was pregnant...she just said "well I smoked when I had my first baby and thats ok". Then the other day she come in again and I said to her how there's a few drunks around 2night, and she said "well I won't be drinking coz I gotta breast feed my baby" .......wtf. She cares about drinking, but not smoking...

I know how you feel i earn $27000 in a year working my fulltime hours. People on the dole can come very close if not past my wage for sitting at home with a few kids. I'm not rich very far from it sometimes its a struggle for me to pay bills and the like.
    WHere's my $1000????

And why do old people need money???

I made a huge mistake, instead of taking the first job I could get (public areas attendant/laundry assistant so cleaning up dirty linen and toilets...not very glorious), working my arse off at it and taking a second job to make ends meet, ripping two ligaments in my back studying as well as working to get into a super visual role so I didn't have to be in pain everyday then clawing my way into management and doing 10-20+ hours unpaid per week I should've got my wife to pop out a few kids and taken the disability pension.....

Where's my bonus? where is my incentive to keep the economy flowing?

    /Rant

I saw a lady yesterday with two children in primary school and three children too young to be in school as well as another baby in a pram, she had a cigarette hanging out of her mouth and was letting her kids just run along right next to the great western highway quite far ahead of her, she was too busy gas bagging on her phone!

Did anyone see the news in where parents were saying "Oh its such a relief to get this money it is so hard to bring up children these days"?

Am I the only one that thought that perhaps people should think more before breeding?

instead of complaining, just be happy your not a single mum

but in all seriousness where does it stop, soon enough we'll have single mums earning more than the PM. just for the arguement we have a similar problem in NZ with single women getting pregnant just because no more work free money, then they'll find any bugger that'll sleep with them and bam another one another $$$.

Happened to me it sucks big time.
