Chrome paint never actually looks like chrome when you spray it on. Nothing you buy in a can will ever look like genuine chrome.

So in answer to your question, just buy some new headlights, they are worth sweet F/A from a wreckers.

I've seen chrome spray paint at auto stores (supercheap etc), just look in the paint section, and if they don't have it they can probably order it in. Otherwise Bunnings might have it too.

No idea how good it works though, Cobez is probably right provided you can find a new set with the reflector in good condition.

i've used several different brands of chrome paint and yes they all look crap, it looks better on some surfaces than others, I'd say most smooth flat surfaces it comes up a dull but shiney silver, rough type surfaces seem to make it look more like chrome.

I would say 100% you won't be able to spray the inside of the headlight and get a nice finish of chrome like factory.

Maybe pull the headlights apart and get the piece electroplated if plastic, or rechromed if steel.....but it's prolly a lot easier just to get some second hand lights or some new non genuine ones...they seem to be fairly cheap.

if you get new/2nd hand ones try to get genuine, i bought one aftermarket and the quality was craptacular.
the adjustment knob in the back was this tiny pointy cog and the whole thing didn't fit in by a bees dick and so the indicator wouldn't go in after it.

I bought non genuine headlights for my VK....and yeah I can't get them fitting right.

Apparently putting aluminum foil in the headlights works. Ya use spray on adhesive and lay the foil down, getting all the wrinkles out. Never tried it myself, and altho it sounds dodgy, I've heard of it done b4 with not to bad results lol.

hey guys thast for all teh replys

i have a pair of VN lights here and i know there slightly different but i think the reflectors are the same...one reflector has a bit of chrome missing and teh other is in good nick but i was thinking of glueing a small pice of aluminium foil over teh missing chrome

lol anything is better then the reflectors that are on there now.....there kinnda yellow/green and have no reflectiveness (<if that is even a word?) and cant even see about 20 meters infront of teh car with high beam on (its me sisters car)

i know me old VN had bloody good lights and me VS has even better lights lol

    cheers

A thing to think about when spraying from a can,is the temp that the bulbs are going to get up to, and whether that is going to have an effect on the paint you might use.

I did this about 2 years ago to the headlights on my vl, just for look purposes. I bought the chrome spray paint, and then went over the top of it with a coat of High Temp clear, to be on the safe side

How did it go? Coz the way I see it, that still doesn't make the chrome paint heat resistant just because there's heat resistant clear on it.

Hasnt caught fire yet, but didnt improve the reflectivity of the headlights. But it's a VL, so **** vision is the norm
