hey all, i have a question for you, i have occurred 2 fines on my p plate license, they are on part payments which end in 25/09/09 as to which i am meant to get my full license on sept 8 2009, will i still get my full license then and lose the demerit points off the full license or not? i got speeding fine in august and November, i have not yet received any letter saying how many points i have lost, also i need my license for my job, what will end up happening after the fines have been paid for?
BTW this is SA license.
any help will be much appreciated
2 speeding fines would mean u lost your license cause u only have 4 points and u would have top appeal for your license than u would be stuck on your p's for another year or so
nah u will lose those points but once you go for your full licence if you get it you get all your points back. 2 people i know did it.
oh right, so i will be on like 1yr good behaviour or i will get full licence when i am meant to?
yeah so did my mates. they got the fines and she went for her full licence before the suspension came in. and she now has her full licence and alls good.
but 1 question. what the **** did you do to lose your licence for almost a year?
i dont think i lost it for a year, i was just saying will i have to do a 1 yr good behaviour, but hopefully i get my full licence and the points come off that ha ha
your points will get taken from the ps no matter what on that date, but if you already get your full licence before then your full icence wont be affected
oh right, so they get taken from ps but if i have my full licence i wont be suspended? cool, ill let you know how it goes in sept ha ha
but he got done before he got his full license doesnt matter when he pays it 3 demerit points for each speeding fine thats losss of license that means he would have to appeal it (hope im wrong man)
im aware of this. he will lose his p's and it will prob say on his record that he lost it. but he gets his full licence on the 8th before the suspension comes in and on the date that the suspension was sposed to start it will just take his p's but he will still be allowed to drive. and will have full points. its like a stupid little loophole
ohhh kk damn thats a load of crap lol ahh well lucky for him im stuck on my p's for another year cause my arm was out the damn window
No you don't. Definitely not in NSW. I've heard lots of people say the same BS, but it's urban legend, you don't get them back.
Demerit points are often misunderstood, you don't "have" 4 points, you have a limit of 4 points, or 12 on a full license. You accrue points and if you get to/exceed your limit you get suspended. Points you accrue are retained for 3 years before they are not considered towards a suspension, so if you got issued 3 demerits on your first day of being a P-plater, by the time you got your full license they'd not be considered towards a suspension, but that's nothing to do with you getting the full license.
i worded it wrong. im aware that demerits are like crosses next to your name. and if you get however many you lose it. but he will be able to drive. and what state do you think im in? NSW BRUTHA! lol
I know you're in NSW, not sure if the OP is?
Either way, if you had accrued 6 demerit points on your P's, it means you only have 6 "left" when you go to your full's, you don't magically get those original 6 written off (unless they are over 3 years old).
Heard tons of people claim otherwise, but its always their mate or friend's friend who it happened to. I was actually in that situation, even asked a cop how it works, and it don't work that way - trust me.
Yep, any demerit point incurred remains valid for three whole years from the date of offence.

3 points for a speeding fine? Might be different here in VIC but the amount of points you receive for speeding here depends on the amount of km/h over the speed limit you are travelling. Less than 10km/h over the limit only incurs 1 point, so if this is the case in SA as well, and that's what the OP's offence was, then he has only incurred 2 points and will not face a suspension anyway.
Also, all licence holders in VIC have a limit of 12 points, whether they are probationary or full licence. However P platers will face a licence suspension if they receive 5 demerit points in any 12 month period.
In NSW the minimum points for a speeding offense is 3
0-15 = 3
15-30 = 3
30-45 = 4
45+ = 6
Add 1 point if you get caught in a school zone, add another if you are a P1 driver.
Because P1 you get suspended if you accumulate 4+ points, this means an automatic suspension for any speeding offense. P2 suspensions are at 7+ points. Full license is 12+
Not really. Don't speed and you won't have a problem. It's really not that difficult to not lose your license.
You can't. You will only lose it with repeated offence.
As you saw from the table above, a P1 driver needs to lose 4 points before they will lose their license. If they are to lose it from one offence, they would need to be exceeding the speed limit by 30-45km/h. In a 60 zone, that means driving at a dangerous 90-105km/h. I think you'll agree anyone doing that deserves to be off the road.
