    Default oil $31us a barrel

Just seen on news that oil is down to only $31us a barrel. Wasnt very long ago it was $145 a barrel and paying $1.60 litre, Now it was dropped over $100 a barrel and still paying $1 a litre. Hows that work?

You need to take currency shifts into the equation as well. Not so long ago the Aus$1 was US$0.98. now it's around 65 cents.

    Exactly.

What annoys me most is people are happy to pay for the following:

    Water $3 600ml
    Coke $3 600ml
    Milk $1.60 litre
    Oil $12 Litre

The list goes on. If you don't like the price of something DO NOT BUY IT. simple huh?

the fact is petrol (as well as many other products) are over priced even when taking currency shifts into account. people aren't complaining (too much) because it's a lot cheaper then it was this time last year. however, petrol companies have realised that fossil fuel and the internal combustion engine has a finite life span and we will soon be at that point where demand will outstrip available oil reserves. petrol companies therefore will screw the consumer for as much as possible because in 50 years they will no longer exsist as they do now.

here in NZ petrol prices dropped ever so slightly before the oil came down, this is because petrol companies were starting to see a reduction in sales because the price was too high and people couldn't afford it. prices haven't dropped anywhere near as much as the drop in oil prices should suggest. this is pure profiteering by the big petrol companies.

the only way people can do anything is to vote with their feet (and their cars ) and boycott one brand forcing them to reduce prices. as this will never happen people need to stop complaining

    What a crock of shyte.

A large McDonalds meal costs 28 cents to produce. Yet sold for $7. Why is no one whinging about this? It costs $18 or thereabouts(only read this in a Time article) to make a Sony Plasma TV, yet these sell for over $2000. Nike shoes cost around 80 cents. Fact is, almost every company out there is out performing oil companies when it comes to ripping off customers. People just whinge about fuel because they liek the sound of their own voices it seems, or in this case, keystrokes.

Oil companies make **** ALL profit when you work on percentages and how much product they actually sell.

i can say the same about about the above also. petrol companies make billions of dollars worth of profit every year. the average servo owner may make jack **** from petrol but the primary producers make a fortune, they pump out the oil, refine it and then ship it. the price of oil is artifically inflated because it's a traded comodity, bush says something about the wanker in iran, oil prices go up, some storm threatens a refinery somewhere, oil prices go up (never mind if there is actually ever any real damage). i ahve no doubt that the actual price to produce a barrel of oil has nothing to do with the price on the markets and what we pay at the pump. i really don't give a toss about the price of mackers as i don't normally get it as it tastes crap and i really can't be bothered paying that much for crap. don't buy a plasma every week either. i totally agree that the majority of companies are ripping of the average consumer these days. that doesn't make it right does it
