well wouldnt servicing be about the same for the magna as the camry? (both front wheel? and a bitch to get to spark plugs etc...)

but if you really want a magna, go for it...... seems your mind is made up

Well in all honesty, they are the best value for money.

After more research, I think for about $6,500, the Magna offers far better value for money. I mean I can get a 2004 model Magna with ABS, cruise, 4 air bags, electric drivers seat, EBD, electric windows/mirrors with just over 100,000kms on it for $7k!
There's not much in it when it comes to fuel consumption compared to a comm, you can look it all up at Fuel Consumption Guide Database 1986-2003 Search Results

I do agree with you though, the current undesirability of the Magna leaves it as one of the best bargains around on the 2nd hand market.
Id definitely be contemplating lpg at 500km a week. You'd be saving ~$20 per week on current useage and fuel prices and probably a lot more when the petrol prices "recover".

According to the link ^, there were also factory lpg kits, so finding one of those as well could be an added bonus, rather than having to organise to get an aftermarket system fitted.

Why waste your money on gas when the petrol consumption is so low.

I used to have a Ralliart Magna, it was a really nice and reliable car. Magnas have their problems like anything else, but they're usually minor and easy to fix.

At this point in time I'm looking at this car...

Can you find a ralliart one again for your price range?

    Go AWD!

I've expanded my price range to $7k now.

Also, no offence to you, but the Verada ****s all over that Acclaim. Far nicer interior, and they drive better too. (judging from driving a VX Equipe and 2002 TJ Magna)

Ralliart Magnas still go for $14k+, and an AWD will be too thirsty...

i'm always wary when someone advertises a car and the first line is "never been crashed".

Magnas tend to depreciate quicker than anything else

Ew. They are the most bodgy AWD systems around.
Seriously. I've got a Subaru Liberty that you can have for $7500.
Its AWD and gets reasonable economy.

Magna AWD's are thirsty gutless cars and to top it off the AWD is hopeless.

In all honesty it sounds like you've made your mind up already. But remember that minor problems can occur in any car, and major problems can occur in any car. Economy wise, there's next to no real difference. The beauty of a V6 commodore is there's an endless supply of spare parts both new and second hand. From dealers, wreckers and Ebay. Also means that these spare parts are not that expensive.

In the family i have a 98 model Verada, all i can say is its a great car!! Very nice interior, safety etc for its age. We have never had any real problems with it, all i can think of is a few oil leaks and broken heater core.
They are pretty gutsy as well when you put the foot down, we got the 3.5L version.
    I recommend them very highly.

If you want to buy an ugly piece of failure, go for it, don't come onto this forum asking for help, then turn around and sprout bull**** comments like that. If the magna was such a nice car to drive and was so perfect they wouldn't have stopped making the pile of rubbish because people would have actually bought them.
