    Default Astra keys

Hi, my boss has a 2002? Astra, and recently his remote battery has died. He said that he had replaced the battery, but now the key doesn't start the car, just unlock the doors. I'm guessing the the key has lost the (sync codes?) and the car won't accept it. My boos said that the car manual told how to re-sync the key but he has since lost the manual. So does anyone know how to recode the key?

Apparently there is something you have to do when the key is in the ignition, to allow the codes from the computer to align with the key or something. I was just wondering if anyone knows.

put the key in the ignition and turn it to bring up the ignition lights. Then lock and unlock the car using the remote

doors will lock then automatically unlock to signify the resync has been a success

if it wont start there is a big chance he has lost the immobiliser transponder chip when the key was apart, they can fall out.
if the battery has been flat the resynch is easy, put it in the ignition & push one of the lock buttons, if the doorlocks cycle it was out of synch, if nothing happens the remote is broken.

Just curious as to how hard replacing a VT battery key is? I tried searching for a How To and it told me there were no threads.

The VT style remote is a sealed unit and the battery is soldered to the circuit board. Aparrently you can replace the batteries, but it's not meant to be done and the remote probably won't fit back together that well afterwards.
