Default Saw a cop chase last night

Yeh, heard cop sirens - coupla seconds later a white VN Commo comes speeding past me - probs doing 75 - 90 ks at a rough guess.

Unmarked VE ss (i think) right behind it, and another one a bit further back.

I live in the mount waverly area btw.

Anyone else see or hear about it?

But I thought to myself, why would you run from the cops. If you get caught, you get caught. But the chances of getting away from them are pretty minimal - a vn vs. a Ve and also at such speeds, anything is possible - could kill yourself, and more importantly, someone else.

Its not about car performance anymore these days, they simply need to keep trying to get away - if the chase is considered to be getting too dangerous it will usually get called off (unless the person being chased is a known dangerous criminal).

Won't be long until car chases are considered a thing of the past IMO

Not sure why they run, cops usually always catch them, if not that day in future! So many vehicles against one! To really get away you need a whole bunch of vehicles, and even still some are bound to get caught.

I guess those people have been playing too much GTA or Need For Speed.

Running always leads to a worse charge though and harsher consequences.

Yeh, I thought about that. But that makes them think they can get away too.

I wouldn't try to outrun them. Like, in a world where it didn't matter (like Xbox - GTA or NFS etc) I might, but otherwise, why would you risk it.

And even if you did get away, you'd be ****tin yourself about the cops fronting up on your doorstep or something.

which I don't think I honestly ever would

You raise a good point, but if your being chased by a VE SS then your gonna be screwed when they do get you for speeding, dangerous driving and theft.

Actually, i know someone who used to drive stolen cars, the guy was driving a VT Clubby back in the days when they were new to a chop shop after it had been stolen by someone else, guy rolled it along the highway near the Dog On The Tuckerbox, broken shoulder and had to run so he was out of there when the cops rocked up! I think he got away with it, but did time for something else.

i dunno about other states but in NSW as soon as they activate the lights on any HWP car the cameras turn on both front and rear.

Their a very good camera that record alot of detail, including number plates, extremely well, so if your fleeing in your car best of luck to ya.

Of course, if its stolen or not yours different story, then again thats what Pol air is for.

It comes down to a debate tho, if you run it becomes dangerous and can hurt you, or other innocent people.

But if they dont chase then its like an open door for crooks.

Basically tho as you said, why would you bother. 3.8 litre V6 that wont stop in a hurry if ya fckuck up verses a 6 litre V8 with a driver whose been trained to handle the car at high speed, and if ya ditch the car hopefully you can run fast coz the images of fat cops on tv is one thing but in the real world if youve ever seen one run after someone they really wanna stop its scary, their like the devil possessed.

I would say they shouldn't chase people ever, it just makes it dangerous. Whats more important, someones car or peoples lives.

yeah thats a smart idea. then everyone will know that you never have to pull over because you wont get chased if you just run away. if youre car ever gets stolen, you can be confident in knowing that anyone seen driving it would never be caught

Sweet, I'll get out there and start boosting cars the day they pass that regulation. At least I'll be safe in the knowledge that I'll never be chased or arrested. The police will have to ask me politely to pull over, and if I don't, that's my choice and I'm free to go.

Yeah, that thing was going for broke! From where you were at the lights, to where we were waiting 2km down the road, I rekon it was full throttle the whole way. Was doing at LEAST 200kph by the time it passed us, and it was still going full throttle. We only saw it for about three seconds, then it was gone

White VE SS heading south on Springvale.

    LOL, what a douche.

@ Morton - Wow, I've never seen a vehicle do 200kmh in the flesh.......
    What was the ve chasing??

    and LOL @ Torqueative.

BTW - Saw something on the news today - apparently a VT got clocked doing 170kmh. Didn't see the rest of the report, just that and a pic of the car.

Oh well, if you two are the ones that get hit by the run away then i bet you'll probably think differently.

well either way, the guy is gonna run away, so if he hits me, i would feel a lot better knowing that there is a cop car after him, instead of the cop sitting on the side of the road thinking "bummer, they drove away". so no, i wont think differently on this because your argument just plain sucks

We didn't know, the VE broke away from a car that it had pulled over, and did a u-turn to start flying down Springvale. It was going so fast we didn't even hear it coming with the sirens on. It made the two cars on Springvale road which were doing 80kph, look like they were sitting still. But I'd say wherever it was going, they wanted to be there soon I've seen a lot of cop cars in a hurry, but this was something special. If they've got any regulations about speeding on public roads, this guy was breaking them all. Easily 200, probably more.

So you get hit and majorly injured or nearly dead, your going to think "Bummer, they drove away"? hahaha. Im sure.

There are many other ways to stop a theif. Instead of starting a high speed chase try to keep it at a minimum speed. Get a helicopter on the theif. Shoot his tires if its safe. Block him. Spike his tires.

Petrol in a car doesnt last forever, he'll eventually have to stop and get out of the car so if a helicopter is on him and cops are scattered around the place theres no need for a high speed chase. In shows like cops they have helicopters recording it yet the police still chase them and continue to endager people.

    lmao, you're funny.

    1) Exactly how many helicopters do you think Police have in cities around Australia?

    2) In the half an hour between a police officer sighting a stolen vehicle, and the helicopter arriving on the scene, how do you suggest they keep a track of it?

    3) Have you ever shot the tyres of a vehicle moving at high speed?

    4) "try to keep it at a minimum seed." How do you suggest they do this? Flood the roads? If I was being chased by the police, and I noticed the patrol car slowing down, my first thought wouldn't be "sweet, they've slowed down, I can afford to wipe off five instead of wiping out lives."

Only twice, and I saw it on TV as well. Looked cool. :P

I was thinking, if the cop doesnt speed up too close then the other person wont need to go as fast, Im sure they'll be thinking of their own safety as well... But then again, I don't know how they think.
