If everyone is so bloody adament that it is not their driving style, not their defective car and not the dodgy places they hang out in that gets the cops attention and its just the p plates that gets the coppers attention answer is pretty ****ing simple....

Take off your p-plates, don't ever display them, you will never get pulled over because you are all angels. Sure you will risk losing points and get fined if you get caught but if you have no plates then working with this popular p plate conspiracy theory chances are no plates means 0% chance of getting pulled over.

I have full respect for the men and women of our police force, and all the other emergency services, the **** they have to deal with I wouldn't want to do in my worst nightmares.

I used to think that the cops had nothing better to do than pick on "P" platers .I was forever getting pulled over when i was on my P's . I had my cars defected more times than i care to remember.
My old HR was so low that its a wonder that my number plate didn't have scrape marks on it . My GTR XU1 had a tunnel rammed V8 under the hood with a big letterbox scoop, rims that stuck out from under the guards a couple of inches and windows so dark that you couldn't see out of them at night .
Now i'm in my early 50's i look back and realise i got defected cos i deserved them .
So all you guys that think you are being picked on unfairly, take a couple of pics of your cars then pull them out in say 20 or 30 years time and you will see what i mean .
there are three types of people in the world , those who can count and those who can't

The last "good" experience was when they caught a group of kids who graffitied and tried to steal a car in my street. Very quick and intuitive action that was a credit to the officers involved.

Being a police officer, I can respond to this. In my area alone there are approx 30 burglaries a week, sometimes you can get 10 in a night. Now accompany that with 3 to 4 assault cases a week, 7 to 8 stealings, 1 or 2 frauds, a couple of unlawful woundings, breach of restraining orders, reports to write, court briefs to compile, interviews to conduct, case files to compile.

The list goes on and on. If I had just your burglary to contend with then yes I could most probably have completed the investigation in a night but it would not have been a conclusive investigation which you the public expects from your Police Service.

We have a very stressful job and at times I do ask myself the question "Why do I do it?.

As with any job, you take the good with the bad

HAHAHAH, well said Jules, if it is only the police doing it for the sake of it, then without P Plates they won't get done.

Clearly we know this is bull**** though because many have admitted to not displaying p plates and received fines. So really, what were they doing to atrract the attention...makes you wonder.

I drove my wagon for a little over a year without ever getting looked at. The difference between that and my VL, is the fact i had P plates on the VL. It wasn't modded, only had a stereo, and no, i didn't have the doof doof cranked and my arm hanging out the window.
I recently borrowed this same VL after i sold it to my sister, and the same effect, not on P's, no attention!

In my experience, thats what the case has been. My driving still isn't different now, but no p plates. When i did have P plates on the international, i was pulled over every other week.

Yeah, it really is just a far fetched idea that young people make up!

well i cant say any bad things about police, iv been pulled over twice in my whole 4 years of driving- first time i was in my vp with a mate he put the lights on we pulled over he came to my window and asked for my licence which i gave him- no dramas there so he proceeded to tell me that 3 of 4 of the tail lights werent working (which i got fixed the following week) and i told him thank you for telling me so i dont get pinged in the future, 2nd was a licence chech& rbt no dramas went our seperate ways, im guessing the people that are targeted have a bad driving record (or criminal record), are smartarses when pulled over (will be known as a smartarse to local coppers& pulled over in future more to say what goes around comes around), ********s who like to 'hoon' around and look suspicious & people with illegally modified cars or maybe there are coppers out there who are just plain stalkers but i doubt that

Got done 8 months ago 115 kmh in a 60 zone. Cop came up to me letting me know what a dick i was and ripped it up me. went to his car checked out my record 4 pages long.... came back and told me if he was to fine me for 45 and over he'd have to take my license on the spot and impound my car. so he ripped it up me some more and handed me a 15 kmh and over fine and let me drive off. ended up 6 months loss off license. Got back a month ago. Tthere are GOOD COPS out there

Simple - I pay for a service by means of taxation and I expect that service to be delivered in a competant and professional way. This case (and you don't know enough about it to comment) was handled *very* poorly.

I was on p plates for 2 years? and got pulled over at least 30 times during that time, I've been pulled over once since (first day I got the VP back into my hometown) in almost 2 decades. Doesn't seem to add up

just one for the p plate conspiracy theorists, i was on my p's for 12 months and not once was i pulled over, not even at the booze bus, as soon as i was off my p's i got pulled over 4 or 5 times in the next 12 months, only once for doing something wrong, the other times for rbt.as has been said the police have a job to do, dont abuse them when they are just trying to do their jobs and keep you alive and safe.

Just curious, when people are saying the get pulled over for an RBT, are you saying you got flagged down from behind and pulled over, or you got signaled into an RBT queue on the side of the road?

I have an issue with police that are tools... just like I have an issue with anyone who is a tool.

Other than that... if they cause you trouble... you've been causing trouble.

Don't cause trouble and you'll be sweet.

Most the time I found if you don't give them attitude and your not a smart arse they are more than happy to try and help you out if they can.

I've had speeding tickets reduced and my car not defected just because I wasn't a prick to them.

I agree there are some idiots in the police force that abuse their authority and think their all high and mighty...

Thats life... deal with it, don't winge about it.

How do you pay for the service, (your taxes pay my wages???, well I pay taxes as well.....)

I did not comment on your case. What you expect and what you get delivered is normally entirely differant.

What I was saying is, the cops have alot on thier plate all the time and wished they could have all the time in the world to solve your case, but this is fantasy land. If that was the case then the next bloke would complain, because I am not looking into his case quickly enough.

Sometimes you don't get a result on every case, sometimes you have to file it due to insufficent evidence or file it pending further information coming to light.

The claremont serial murder case is still open and might not ever be solved, but it doesnt mean the police will ever give up on the investigation

I would suggest being flagged down from behind.

One change in attitude I've noticed since I was "released" from my probationary licence:

When I'm flagged down for an RBT, it no longer involves "where have you been, where are you going, can I see your licence, we're just going to do a few checks etc..."

It's just "blow in here", "thanks champ, have a good night".

Having said that, I do agree with the way a lot of younger drivers are treated - i.e. with suspicion and caution. I think it makes you appreciate your full licence and the responsibility that comes with that, a lot more than you would otherwise. I've had one ass-hole encounter with a police officer who was trying to convince me that I was speeding, when I was clearly not. Aside from that, I've had nothing but good experiences. I think on the whole they're doing a fantastic job - it's just a shame that a few heros ruin it for the rest of an otherwise excellent community service.

But (rant nearly over) you get buggers everywhere. There's pricks working for centrelink, pricks at the bank, and pricks at AusPost. There's pricks living next door to you, and pricks in every workplace. It's human nature - if we were all perfect, we wouldn't need a police force in the first place.

When i use the term, i mean both. I've been pulled into specific RBT stations, aswell as being pulled over for my 'random' breath test.

Just that being pulled into the station isn't being picked on, that's genuinely an RBT and everyone driving past has a chance of being pulled in.

I got pulled over today as it happens.
Though I must say the officer who spoke to me was quiet pleasant.

He just asked to see my licence, to which I said "Because its an SS eh?", "Yup" was the reply. I told him I got my licence priot to the laws being introduced, "Ahh yeah, well nice car buddy don't bend it".
    And that was it.

Still, I think most traffic police are knobs :P.
