Default 78 yr old hoon has car impounded

Here is something to make you young fellas happy lol. From ninemsn:

A 78-year-old Melbourne man caught speeding at 170km/h on a winding road has become the oldest person to have his car impounded under Victoria's hoon laws.

The man was driving the Nissan Pulsar at 170km/h in a 100km/h zone in Brandy Creek Road, Warragul, east of Melbourne on January 1 when he was caught by police.

He was following a Nissan Skyline driven by a 36-year-old man.

Acting Sergeant Carlo Visser said the road was six metres wide and winding.

"It is disappointing to see a senior member of our community being so irresponsible - what example does this set for younger drivers?" he said.

"The man expressed to us that he believed he was a skilled driver, and that he races cars.

"But we fail to see how a driver can be competent when they are tearing around roads at 170km/h knowing that other drivers will not be expecting you.

"To put those people's safety - and your own - at such risk is really just toying with death," Act Sgt Visser said.

Both men had their cars impounded and paid $600 to retrieve their vehicles from the Warragul impoundment on Monday.

The 78-year-old from Narre Warren North and the 36-year-old Canterbury man will both appear before court where they face fines and licence suspensions.

Previously, the oldest driver to have their car impounded for speeding was a 64-year-old Melbourne man who drove a Porsche at 110km/h in a 60km/h zone.

Police have already impounded 42 vehicles in just six days from Victorian drivers.

Ha ha I love the news sometimes.

If they actually wanted to discourage people from doing this stuff they wouldn't publish the exploits of others who have. Might as well post a video on youtube as well. Someone speeding excessively isn't exactly earth shattering news anyway.

^^^ He should have actually tried that excuse.

You see alot of instances where it looks like a bomb exploded on a road, with a green camry in the middle of it and a little old man saying "...but I thought it was the brake.."

    Haha...

    He got what he deserved

haha that road doesnt wind around that much and it would be very easy to exceed the speed that they were doing on that road. I travel it very regularly and regularly see people flying past me and never being caught by the cops. I accidently went past a highway cop at 120km/h down hill one day and he never even flinched. Its just funny how the news is always twisted in some way.

Meh, why charged with hoon offences, why not charged with dangerous driving?

isnt most of brandy creek road down hill? I can understand picking up to maybe 120-130 on it. Its wrong but i can understand how it happens. But 170 in a pulsar would have taken some act of god

Probably because they were charging both drivers with the same thing? So better to get both for hooning, than both for dangerous driving because of the younger (younger than 70 then) driver.

It changes heaps, lots of ups and downs and just flat straights, there are numerous parts of it that you could easily get up to 170 and beyond if your car can do it of course. there is one section that you would be pushing to do 120 on because it is very windy but thats my favourite part of the road

I thought a Pulsar is too unstable at those speeds! I never had one that i drove up THAT high! And even at 130 or so it's stupid and because the cars so light easily gets thrown around even by a little bit of wind. At 140ish the pulsars complain! That was a 1997 Pulsar too, so the new ones can't be that stable at 170!

Shows the skills us old men have to be able to control small cars at high speeds. Watch and learn kiddies. On the other hand if he'd been in a VR he'd of been done for a lot faster lol.

A 70 odd year old was done under the hoon laws here for doing 90 through a 40 zone in roadworks. He complained to the paper that it should have only been a fine and some points because he was older and more "responsible"...one rule for everybody I say. He deserved it. Same as the old guy in the Pulsar. He may race cars but he wasn't on a track at the time. Nice example...

LMAO how the hell could you say that after you have done something extremly irresponsibe. i would have laughed in his face. as for the guy in the pulsar that we are talking about claiming he races cars who gives a sh** you were on a public road. its not like they have two sets of rules for average drivers and drivers who race.
