I had this stainless steel slide phone which was the toughest phone I owned!! It survived so many falls, spills etc etc..
Anyway, come last weekend I dropped in in the dogs friggin water bowl. Let it dry out for two days, it was still charging etc just not turning on. The phone happened to work for two days after, but would no longer charge...
I'm now using a crap @ss old flip phone nokia, it has a vga camera and lags too much. No memory, no music, no nothing. The slide was the best phone i'd owned, not to mention still paying the plan off!
Someone told me the connections had gone green and mouldy and to my inspection they hadn't, hahaha. I just don't get why it was charging for a few days and then it stopped all of a sudden.
I miss my phoneAnyone got any ideas as to whats up with it? Is it a cheap fix? The battery from my other 6288 doesn't fit it so I can't test if it's that either.
I really don't want to pay this $1000 bill and then continue paying $49 dollars a month for no phone.... I miss random bluetooth messages! And I no longer have a phone to put my memory card in. Grrrrrrrrrr.
Any ideas? Thanks guys.
If it's been in water, then there's a good chance you've shorted out something on the circuit board and damaged some components. It's probably not repairable. Your only real hope would be to take it apart as much as you can (it's not like you haven't already voided the warranty and have anything to lose), and let it all dry out over a couple of days, then put it back together. Try and avoid touching any of the components to avoid static damage.
If it doesn't work after that, try finding someone with a phone with the same model battery but it's unlikely to be the battery causing problems.
I bought my 6500 slide black on ebay from an aus shop on east coast for like 250bux brand new "aus stock" too 6months ago. dunno why people get plans with phones cause who in the right mind pays RRP.
suggestion just buy a new one. once a phone ingests water it will never be the same again.
Do you mean you charged it while it was drying? or afterward?
The only thing I would have suggested would be to drop it in a bucket of metho straight away. It dries up the water, then let the metho dry and it would be more likely to work. Would destroy any rubber and plastic on it though. But, since it's already been a little while since it happened and it's been on since, too late for that now.
As to why it isn't charging anymore, could be anything. Could be just connections corroded, could be something shorted or something like that. Could be your battery though, hunt around and try to get a cheap one off eBay to test, or find someone you know who has the same phone.
Electronics and water generally shouldn't appear in the same place at the same timeIt's kinda hard to tell what faults you'll get, sometimes they recover fine, sometimes they shit themselves.
I've had this happen too - my phone got splashed in a boat and it worked fine for another week but then refused to charge the battery. I sent it away for repair, and they wouldn't fix it under warranty because they found evidence of water damage. They sent me a magnified photo and everything.
What happens is the circuit boards dry out after being wet and then after a little while, they start to develop surface rust. The rust on a few adjacent circuits touches and then the electrical signals short out. Since the circuit board ceases to have proper circiuts, the phone stops working properly.
So to answer your question - no, it's almost certainly not a simple fix. It would cost a lot of money to repair and you can't get out of paying the phone off - better to just fork out what's owing and move on. You might be able to sell the battery, charger etc on eBay to recoup some of the cost.
You could try picking up a cheap 2nd-hand 6500 if you want another one. And you might want to consider getting phone insurance, which is not that expensive.
^^ that only happens with salt wateri was walking on rocks next to a river and ofcourse slipped and fell in with my phone in my pocket was in their for probs about 30 seconds got out took my jeans off got my phone out pulled it apart let it dry out in the sun then dried it out with a hairdryer when i got home and it auctully worked better i rekon ( nokia 6230I ) and that was fresh water btw
Eureka styles!
I've dropped my Motorola V3i in a large variety of things, including a bucket of vomitand it still works fine just the back light stays on whilst charging.
Not sure if you could relate this but i dropped my iPod into salt water whilst it was under warranty, i just put it in the sun for 2 days and then sent it back to Apple claiming it just died, 1 week later i had a brand new iPod![]()
nah phones have a peice of paper in them that dissolves if it comes into contact with moisture so theres no doing a dodgy here .........
Eureka styles!
oh right, i never knew about that piece of paper
Neither did I!! I know nothing about phones, cept how to destroy them
Well I guess seeing as I have nothing to lose and don't wanna fork out repair costs, i'll take the thing apart.
When I slide the top bit up, it looks like im gonna need some type of alum key to take it apart?
Are these specific keys, or if I raid Grandpas rarge will I find something???
What happened was, dropped it in the dogs water. It was dried out for two days, used a hair dryer too on the first day.. It turned on only to the nokia screen (with the hands, but they were upside down!!) and wouldn't go any further. So I had it plugged into charge the second day, my battery was full and it worked. Then next time it bleeped with low charge, it wouldn't take charge from any chargerStupid dogs. They aren't even mine!!!
Ima boot Jesse over the fence to avenge my phone
Lawl.
As to the screws, you're most likely going to need hex keys. They're a 5- or 6-point star shape, I'm guessing? They are used in phones, iPods, gaming consoles, and car BCMs to lock the memcal in. You can pick up a set from supercheap for about $15, but chances are they will be too large. If you go to an electronics store then you should be able to get a small set fairly cheaply, they may not know them as 'hex keys' though. Try asking for 'tamper-proof allen keys' and see what sort of expression their face responds with![]()
Ah that's right, I thought I had the name confused there, couldn't remember what it was though lol.
I've called them alum keys my whole life... :S
Will go find me a set.
I already screwed one of em up tryna hack at it tho!
Stressball, you're scraping on 3 wheels? My handbrake cable scrapes the ground hahahaha
my phone is a 6680 IT IS THE BEST, it has everything and survived accident even I couldn't!
had all kinds of spills, water, pepsi, coffee, and even ......Puke !
now after 4 years of owning ( Abusing ) it started to fall apart but still works damn fine
in a month I'll but the E66 >>> AmAzInG !
Really really ... Fighting Temptations
Back when I was around 15 or 16 we went camping. We had just come back from a bucks party on a massive house boat and I was drunk and shit and fell out of the boat. The old nokia 3315 was not working... Got home the next day and put it on charge... Yay its working. A week later all the buttons stopped working so I started throwing it at a brick wall. After doing that all the buttons started working and I was using the phone for another 6 months before I upgraded. This was a salt water lake as well..
