    Default Recommended Rotary Hammer Drill

    Hi Guys,

Got a question for the trades people on here, I'm looking at getting a rotary hammer drill, I haven't decided whether or not I'll go down the cordless route at this stage, but I'd be interested to see what people are using on here, and what their recommendations are. I want to get something thats good quality and is going to last a while.

Please post your recommendations / comments, and if you can remember roughly how much you spent and where you got the tool from.

    Cheers guys

Speaking of drills, today i went to put one of the drills on charge cause i needed one. Go in the garage find one of 3 drills we have, find 2 drills that are the same and 1 charger for the one i cant find.

After turing the place upside down I went to bunnings and got a CORDED hammer drill for $29, 3 year warrenty and im happy, even got the guy in there to test it and he put his hand on the end of it and ripped a bit of skin off

Appart from Hilti and Ramset. Metabo and Hitachi are ok too. Atlas are ok if you can find them too.
But for availability, reliability and service id go Hilti if ya got the cash

Thanks for the comments so far guys... much appreciated.

A couple of the blokes at work recommended metabo or AEG too. Anyone used either of these two brands before?

I've used a metabo cordless rotary hammer before at work, and it was fantastic, although the battery life wasn't really all that great, plus the price tag was pretty high too ($1100+).

I'll second that. I went through 5 of those things before i got sick of going back and claiming. They felt like really good units to use but the batteries kept letting go. One of them even had smoke coming from the charger.

Because i was planning on keeping it cheap i decided after 5 ozito brand drills i'd get a good old (even cheaper) ryobi ($120) cordless hammer. Also has good warranty period - 2 or 3 years i believe and have done more work with that thing than the other 5 combined with no problems at all. It doesn't feel strong to hold but in terms of a worker for the price it can't be beaten.

I bought two Ryobi's about 2 years ago for renovating my house. Main requirement was hammer drill because of the double brick. Both are cordless and they are great. Eats through it in no time. Roughly $120 from bunnings.

I use a metabo kh32 hammer drill quite often and never had a problem. Also their variable speed grinders are quite good.

While on tools Hitachi cordless drills I swear by. Also AEG make a decent cordless too.

Dewalt make kick arse corded hammer drills

other than that, I'd go Metabo.

Ramset are overated, Hilti are probably the best, but as said, you pay for it.
