Default A new cost effective way to replace speed cameras

I don't know about you, but this would slow me down! People slow down and try to 'straddle' the hole, then breath a sign of relief they completely clear it!
This is actually a speed control device that is in use. Scroll down and look at all three pictures. And it is much cheaper than speed cameras

Would slow you down the first time, till you realise it's a hoax then you'd just drive over it... unless some of them were actually punji traps, then you'd think twice

That is absolutely brilliant! Worth every cent, unfortunately the government wouldn't see a cent so it would be a big no no.

it looks like something removable that they can place at different locations every day. you might see it on a random road one day, and would you trust yourself enough to know its fake?

I know some 4WD owners that would speed up for such a thing.

I was in brissy visiting mates, never been offroading before, so he goes 'oh really, watch this' and just launches over the gutter into a vacant paddock!

As said tho, would most people ever keep going at speed?

    To quote Dylan Moran, an irish comedian and star of the BBC show Black Books;

    (referring to Hummers)
"People change when they get behind the wheel of these things. They lose the ability to distinguish between your childen and an empty packet of crisps"

Dylan Moran is hilarious, and that quote is awesome

You may or may not have noticed how Nathan Rees' mini budget, while trying to hit motorists with as many charges as they could get away with, could somehow provision to afford I think it was 500 new speed cameras to install across NSW.

They're ONLY interested in making money. If they actually cared about safety then they would be paying money to have police constantly patrolling the streets.

Lol, you don't need to provision shit for setting up cameras - they pay for themselves pretty quick!

and where would "they" get the money? "Us", the public of course, the only way we can put more police on the street is if we pay for it, are you ready for a large increase in taxation, or do you expect pollies to pay for this out of their own pockets?

agree 100% with the last 2 posts, i'd like to know where all this money goes...as the roads are still shithouse and hardly ever see repairs until the hole gets to big.

So you are one of those people that believe that the majority of taxes we pay go into making individual politicans wealthy?

So if we paid all our pollies half as much, how many extra police cars would that put on the road? (have you really thought through the arithmetic)......and what calibre of politician would that attract?

Yes, I deliberately left that open for that type of reply.
Perhaps you know better than the current crop of pollies?

So other than the common consensus around this forum that Australia's fortunes can be restored by cutting the "plasma" baby bonus and cutting back on welfare to bludgers etc, what would you do?
