hi guys and girls..
we were kicking this question around at work...
how quick would a car have to be to beat an r1 or equivalent down the quarter?
i have looked on quite a few sites but none of them had 1/4 mile times so i am at a loss.
if anyone knows out there would be greatly appreciated for a reply.
p.s. this was just 1 of those hypothetical(sp) bullshit questions that come out when we are so busy that we have to talk shit!
thanks in advance

would be around the 10 second mark depending on the rider.
a street car would have no hope against a bike on a strip

Will also depend which year the R1 is.
Differences in exhaust-flow efficiency, improvements in the transmission and weight-reduction all play a part as well, each year the same model bikes have been getting slightly quicker.
Unfortunately, IE doesn't like this particular site so I can't check it, but go on Sport Bike Motorcycles & Custom Sport Bikes - Sportbike Accessories, Parts & Reviews at Sport Rider and look around, I know they used to have lists by manufacturer of their quickest 1/4 mile times on each bike they review. I'd check it myself but IE at work keeps performing illegal operationsGo Go Microsoft!
Friend of mine has an 07 R1, had a little bit of work done such as exhaust etc. Best he could do was a 10.68. He found it almost impossible to get a really good take off. He reckons maybe another 3 tenths would be best he could get with a perfect launch. Ive ridden this down the great ocean rd....damn it feels good.

I have seen R1's at the track go 11 flat no worries. My bosses gsx750 also has gone 11's.
so yes you would nee da quick car to keep up. saying that i have been in KIWI vxss that ran a 11 flat beat a r6 on a rolling run and also sit along side a r1 when racing on a rolling run.
if you want something quick for a budget but a R1. wont beat it dollar wise, a brand new R1 is what aorund $17k mark. you wont find a car for $17k new or used that will do 11's
Nanos:
A rolling run is just that, a rolling run. A bike's strong point is its high power-to-weight ratio, not it's all-up power output. Acceleration from a standing start is insane, particularly due to usually quite short lower gears, but as it pushes to the top end of it's gearbox it struggles, as a general rule. It takes a massive amount of power to get only a minor increase in speed at the top end.
And as for an 11sec car for under $17K... Search the forums for "Rod Knock Final Detonation"
Minux: Extended swingarm ftw! Acceleration issues nigh non-existant. It just kind of makes it impractical on the road![]()
I do undertsand how rolling runs work and how a bike handles this.
I have been riding for the past 15 years both trail and road. Currently do not own a bike as some **** head stole it but non the less understand it all.
I was just pointing out to Skitzn that yes it is possible to beat a road bike.
the new r1's do a 9 second pass and have around 150 horsepower at the wheel, bloody fast things to ride i almost killed myself in the process!

who cares what any bike does does down the 1/4???
bikes are not made for straight lines, it ruins the tyres, bikes are meant for national parks and country roads.
except for harleys, they handle like a pogo stick on a trampoline

ahhhh, there is no way in hell id take a GSXR or an R1 into a national park.. lol...
i think your thinking of dirt bikes only man, road bikes can go on anything... most run semi slicks anyway..
next bike will be a GSXR750 or Thou... depends whats around when im ready to buy i guess...
it all comes down to the rider too... its a fine line with maxing out the gears but not lifting the front end too much too...
aZk.
can i have some of your crack??? it seems to be good.
the national park, as in the royal national park, the 100s of k's of twisty roads, we didnt seem to have any drama taking and r1, r6, gxr1000 and 750, rgv, cbr, zzr, and a xt through the national park on the weekend

Being on the internet, it may not be entirely true. Also this is for an 06 R1, the 09s have a new crank design so may be faster (or slower.....)
i am yet to see any car that can do 11's be street legal.
R1 completly legal on the street.
VLT that can do 11's im thinking you woul dnot even get a RWC on it.
find me a 11 sec car for around the price of a R1 that is street legal. in other words something i wont get put off the road driving.
That is more what i was getting at.
I understand i could run massive boost and massive cooler blah blah blah on a Vl but will it be legal.
....It's only illegal if you get caught!I understand i could run massive boost and massive cooler blah blah blah on a Vl but will it be legal.
I don't think there's much point comparing cars to bikes really - each are good at their own 'thing'.
Sure you might get a car that can pass a bike in a straight line..... but so what?![]()
you can't fit a car between bollards & park on a footpath - and you don't have air con on a bike.
what's my point?
I have none, It's friday.
lmao @ how someone always brings up the deigomobile VLT. Sooo many more better cars to boost than those ugly pieces of crap

It's a paper magazine, this is the internet front of the magazine. All of the tests they do, they did themselves, I believe. Their times are what they managed to do.
There are quite a few 11sec street legal cars around, and faster. I'd imagine it would be difficult to find a legal, reliable, 11sec car for under $17K though, you're right heh.
