Ok so allot of wildlife is suffering due to the heatwave, duhh, ok I only just caught on.
I just did a sweep of my girlfriends property, (Its like a 1/4 acre block) two freshly dead ringtails, I was friggen heartbroken, they looked like they had been there less then an hour, the ants hadn't even set in, but they were definantly dead
I'm going to throw a few ideas out here, if anyone doesn't agree or doesn't like the ideas, maybe best not to reply, depends really, constructive critisism is always good, sensless negativity wont help.
I figured if anyone out there can be bothered, go do a sweep of your property, i'll be doing a sweep every hour or so while I am still awake, if you have a larger property, I understand why you wouldn't bother, my parents property (Where I live part time) is 1.5 acres and is slap bang on a gulley so its hills either side, thats hard work, imagine 3 or more acres.
Another thing, especially if you cant do a sweep is to put a couple of bowls of water out in the shade. (The shade is important, animals burn and scald easily, much like human babies or so my mum has always told me)
what to do if you find an animal, be cautious, a hot and bothered Kangaroo might do you some serious damage :P give the animal shade, cool it down by laying it ONTOP of a wet blanket or towel and give it water, play it by ear and see how it goes, otherwise, call your local sanctuary or other wildlife foundation, some fruit might not go astray either.
It would be great if everyone could get on board, even pass the word around
I would like to see some wildlife survive this summer, i'm making it a bit of a habit for myself now, to always check for the animals and puit put water out for them, afterall, not every creature can reach the bird bath.
Thanks everyone :P
is anyone on board?
hey mate, if i had property, id be with ya but if i find any birdies in my backyard id be sure to help em, good to know some people have a good nature
Two possums literally fell dead out of trees while on my round of golf today as well as several dead birds near my house. It does sort of have an ery feeling of some sort of apolocalypse in progress. There was water in my backyard and water on the golf course, but it would appear that the animals arent used to accessing their water from somewhere else.
We have a large round pond/trough for the kangaroos to drink out of in the backyard they use it in the mornings and night and I allways leave enough half bird eaten fruit around for anything that's hungry/thirsty everything seems to be happy enough so far. The trees are needing a fair dose of water tho![]()
tell me about it Greenfoam, most of the trees in our yard are turning brown.
