Default What is a good driver?

I was just wondering, you hear people all the time say they're a good driver... I am one of them, I think I'm a good driver, but my parent's also think they're good drivers, however, we drive completely differently... Myself and my dad have had accidents, my mum hasn't, but she drives so conservatively that she couldn't dent her car if she tried..
So, what does everyone think makes a good driver??

Someone who can clearly read the road, observe what could happen next and is focused on driving and not playing with the radio / kids instead.

lol your a good driver but have been in accidents?

I class myself as a good driver, due to training experience etc. Do I class myself as a good road user? Hardly, I have no patience for ********s who drive

haha yeah I know, ironic ay... I like to think that it wasn't my fault that it happened, it was sum dip shit (excuse the language) up ahead in traffic who slammed on their brakes for no apparent reason, and it caused a chain reaction of cars just missing the ones in front, except for me... The distressing thing is that the person who stuffed up up ahead wouldn't have a clue what they caused... Granted, I should have been further back, but in peak hour traffic, who allows the correct distance between the car in front and yourself...

i'd say there are different types of good drivers. The first doesn't get into trouble, but like your mum some drive so slow n over cautious that i wouldn't say there are really good drivers. the other type are those that can get themselves out of trouble ie slides, lockups.. with good car control.

Good drivers allow enough space in between them peak hour or not! I've never slammed into a car in front of me, sudden stopping or not

Yes well I've learnt my lesson now haven't I.. So much so that I'm actually scared to 'tail gate' now... Can't trust anyone else on the road..

a good driver is someone that dosent cause probllems when commuting, someone that car see potential hazards before they arise, someone that dosent make other drivers angry because of their driving style, smooth low speed manouvering, keeping full control of the car at all times blah blah

yeah all about car control and manaeuvrability, one who can get in and out of those tough parking spaces, aware of what is happening around them i.e. ahead of traffic, checking mirrors and knows the best course of action in an emergency situation and someone who actually can stay in their lines around turns and in roundabouts, hate going near people in roundabouts as everyone always cuts their lines !

I think a good driver is a driver who can keep in control of their car regardless of conditions, obeys the road laws with no exceptions other than where the law contradicts itself and basically has the skills to drive safely wherever they are, in any situation, without their actions resulting in them or anybody else being involved in a collision.

I'm okay, I know I could be better anyway.

But I've had a few courses about awareness and they've stuck in my head more then most.

Things that I look for in someone that's driving in front of me.
Enough time when indicating, not one flick as you change lanes (if you bother at all)
Moving to the edge of the road when turning.
Sufficient braking time allowed when stopping - warning the driver behind with light brakes and indicator.
Steady on the speed - not 40-80-40, just 60 all the way.

It goes on, but for me personally, awareness is a huge thing, always knowing what's happening in front of you and 3 cars ahead of you. What's happening behind you, if there's a car beside you, motorbike beside you etc.

i'm actually considering becoming a worse driver because what's the point of driving safely if no-one else does? the amount of shitty driving i see daily that goes entirely unpunished. ie people cutting 2 lanes (in front of me) to get into a slip/turning lane because they couldn't think ahead.

Good driver.. Someone who knows the rules of the road is a good start.
Courtesy to fellow drivers.. Stays out of the overtaking lane when not prepared to travel at the posted speed limit. Remembering they have 3 mirrors not 1. Paying more attention to the roads then your hair or food your shovelling into your pie hole lol.

Don't know about anyone else but I am THE best back seat driver!!!
I dont drink these days. I am allergic to alcohol and drugs. I breakout in handcuffs!

The less people know about how sausages and laws are made, the better they'll sleep at night.

lol... not quite what i ment....

I ment drivers that don't give you a reason to pay them attention...

They are not driving too fast, too soft, doing weird sht, talking on the phone.

They just come and go without standing out...

    If that makes sense
