In yet another foolish, short term brain explosion by the federal government, KRudd will be handing out $950 to each taxpayer earning under $80k/yr.

Opinion time: Do you think this is an extemely foolish move? I do. It's just a sugar hit for aussies. It does very little but keep the budget in defecit. Discuss.
I think it stinks big time and its a huge waste of money and the labor party are going to completely screw this country with their economics. I'll leave it at there, my full thoughts are in the other political thread.
I'm all for it. They have to do something and look after the strugglers where Howard only looked after the rich.
I am now trying to convince the wife to let me get extractors or get my VR lowered with the money but she aint budging (she wants to pay off debt). I guess I may be able to win her over with using some for tint :P
i think its great.that gets me a free tune for my car
bout time i got a piece of the pie.
id rather see the workers of Australia get a bit of spending money instead of giving all the hand outs to the lazy waste of space bums in this country that choose to be unemployed or would rather sit at home making babies for the $5000.
I could care less if it helps the economy or not, im just happy that those that have got off their arse and have chosen to support themselves get a shot at it this time.
anyone else notice the name of the person quoted in that article, the one bragging about his 52" plasma and blu-ray?
Way off Julie. What economics are Labor practising exactly and how is it ruining the country?
Any Economist will tell you what's behind it and that's a pretty damn good thing to do, given the situation.
My thoughts are based on the degree I earned in Economics and my particular specialisation in J.M. Keynes (topped the subject there), so I know a thing or two about economic theory.
Good move by Krudd and the Goose.
extractors mate
I reckon there are some good points in it. Firstly spending some money on science labs around schools can't be a bad thing. And secondly insulation in homes will have a massive effect on power usage in this country. It really gets my back up all these McMansions that have no eves no insulation and a huge air conditioner!

I'm not even sure I will be a recipient this time. I'm a superannuee, but not self funded and didn't receive anything last time (and didn't deserve to receive anything, either).
Those poor self funded buggers miss out again but see their savings going south with interest rate reductions. One group which doesn't benefit from the good news.
I have mixed views about this package. The government is faced with something that no government in the world has had to face until now, but which every single one (with the probable exception of Zimbabwe, which has been stuffed for years) has to confront now.
It's not really a case of political expedience, and I doubt that the Government will use their benevolence to pre-empt an early election. (Somehow I suspect that as long as Costello is lurking in the Opposition back-benches, the Government will want to keep him there. He's probably the only one with any credibility to attack Government financial policy and I think his public reputation is still fairly high.)
If the government only funded infrastructure, the public facilities would improve but would state government budgets permit the improvements in staffing necessary to operate the facilities? In NSW, we'd love new hospitals, but don't have the staff to operate the current ones. No doubt, other states are in the same position. The Government is trying to stimulate the entire economy, not just sections of it. Some policies are daft, but overall, they seem to have hit the many targets reasonably well.
I don't know how we'll cope with the eventual deficit, but time will tell.
Stealthy missed one question mark as far I could tell, has my English slipped that much since school?
Oh and i'm pretty happy with it, When I was in tafe I worked in ALL of my free fricken time, when I finished tafe I was still flat broke, but I had a diploma (Which I never used) and my teeth all fixed and I owned my own car.
This year so far has been the best financially for me, and this just tops it off, time for the little guys.
Excuse me if I have missed something, Im in year 12 now and i work part time paying tax etc. Do i get cash from this plan?
