Impact speed always counts. 4 banger will still go splat at 120.![]()
Hey Guys/Gals,
I was having a (heated) debated with my parents over a V8 conversion and there point was that a 5L was more dangerous and that more ppl die in them and all that who-haI kindly reminded them that if you hit a tree at 120 in a V6 u have the same chance as hittin it at 120 in a V8

So I was thinking does anyone no where there are any stats on what percentage of crashes are V8's and V6's?
cheers in advance!

On younger groups, most fatalities were in modified vehicles, that is all that is said, which is why there are so many restrictions on what can and cant be driven.
While its good to say damage at 1 speed will do the same in any car, its how quickly it gets to that speed which is the danger.

Even if such stats existed, they won't help your case. The number of V6's on the road compared to V8's would mean that many more collisions occur involving V6's. You would have to be able to show the percentage of 6's on the road involved in prangs, compared to the number of 8's on the road involved in prangs, for the comparision to have much value.
how old are u have u thought of insurance and stuff i wanted a WH V8 but couldnt justify spending that much on insurance so when im 25 ill get a V8
didnt knw they could make 120
you do make a good point...although it wasn't for the right team lol
lucky for me there arent any restricitons (that i know of or will follow)
yeh thats wat i was trying to get cause they would have brought up that point![]()

as for a four banger doing 120 clicks, you make me laugh.
i was in a current model camry one night at over 200km/h (not illegal, on private road) and also i drove a rodeo diesel (VCDI motor) 4WD ute there the other week and hit 200km/h.
if i can guarantee you one thing, i'd certainly prefer to be doing 200km/h in a decent commodore than in a rodeo. ffs this 4wd ute didn't even have 4 wheel disc brakes. or even more scary is the camry, front wheel drive. imagine a blowout at those speeds in fwd car.

But im not one 2 judge, and im not implying in anyway that you couldnt control/handle a V8 as i dont know you personally, but either way mate parents will be parents, they just love ya and want to know you will be ok and its their right to be concerned/lecture![]()

Also thought i should mention, i bought my V8 against the advice of my parents.
My Dad came with me when i test drove my car, and said 'its a nice car, shame your not getting a V8'. Little did he know i was!
6 Years later, the car still hasn't been crashed.

Having had both a V6 and a 5 litre there's no difference in the crashability of the cars unles you are being silly in the rain, then you would be more likely to crash in the 5 litre of course
my insurance for the wh international 5.7L is only 760 full comprehensive, i dont understand why people say insurance is so much more on a V8 if your a younger driver. as my vp cost around the 600 mark
who are you with 02DUBH ? im payin about 1200 with all mods on the list
allianz, and i dont have a very impressive driving record either.
hang on, the insurance is also in my mums name aswel. i just went over my insurance details.
Most insurers wouldnt go near me seeing i was under 25, even with a completely clean driving record. or if they did there were going to rape me with there prices.
my parents also were against me getting a V8, so i went down and got a few R1 and CBR1000 brochures with quotes and left them strategically around the house. funnily enough they thought 4 airbags, abs, a seatbelt in a metal cage were better than a just a helmeti wanted a V8 when i was 18 and they said no so i agreed reluctantly but i said my next one would be, so they had 3 years of warning....
Haha, more likely to crash in a V8 - pffft..
Its how far you push the pedal down that makes it go faster...
Just this afternoon at around 6pm-ish.. heard these young D***H***s racing up and over the hill... then an almighty Screeeeeeeeeeecccchhh!! then little bang.. then HUGE bang.. haha
I go out the front - only to see a VS V6 commodore sitting in my neighbours driveway/garage.... almost backwards.. took out the double garage and the whole side of the house.. said he was doing 50km/hr and fell asleep! more like 150km/hr..
Any way back on topic.. V8's aren't the only thing that will make you go 'fast' its the driver controling the V8.. If you're sensible and know how to drive, you will never have a problem, but if you're like half the other young kids out there - that want a V8 to go 'fast' and 'think' they know how to drive.. its only going to be a matter of time before you come un-stuck.. and probly hurt yourself and others..
Having said that.. any young 'race car driver' in any car can do similar if not the same damage so the size of the motor is almost irrelevant
You also need to consider being v8s they are going to be a more desirable target than v6 crap boxes for thieves and that would heavily impact on insurance premiums.
