sucks doesn't it. even the older model VXR8 as the Holdens were sold under had a supercharger option from the dealership which i take to mean it would have had a dealership warranty with it. that stupid luxury car tax in ausie is really killing the industry.

many years ago when my old man was looking for a new car we saw a supercharged Mustang in the local Ford showroom. he ended up with a V6 mondeo which would run circles around any 6 banger falcon of equivalent age, the really sad part was here it's a 125kw 2.5 V6 option. in Europe there is a 200+kw V6 option for the same car

Funny, we pay so much for cars thata re sold for less over seas, yet they still want our tax dollars to keep bailing them out.

It's the Mondeo ST220, but is 220BHP, not KW.

Yeah, it's still a lot more. The best models always seem to be overseas

Probably because their markets are far more sophisticated than ours. Euro markets aren't dominated by Korean custard tins or Toyotas (yet) and the larger market means that cars have to be really well designed and engineered to be competitive.

Because of our taxation regs, the HSV 427 isn't really competing against the same vehicles here that it has to meet in Europe. Over there, it's probably being marketed against things like AMG Mercs and M series Beemers, whereas here it sits in a different market sector because of their extreme prices thanks to taxes. What is acceptable on our market won't make it over there, so the company has to up the ante to ensure competitiveness.

It is still cheaper to buy a clubbie here and get the 15K package from walkinshaw so total would be 75-80k ? and it will be well under the 100k they are paying for it over there.

here is some more info about the kits..

^^^ Agree... but then in terms of insurance and what not... they have a "factory" car at the end of the day and doing we end up with a heavily modified car...

    Yeah. That sucks.

We really get ripped off over here. Yet you'd think it would be more expensive overseas because of exportation and what not. Obviously goes to show that they really are ripping us off big time.

Exchange rates play a major part. Our buck is only worth about 44 English pence, or around 65 US cents. The difference in value of currency means they can be exported and sold at what seems like unreal prices, but they also have different taxation levels applying too.

    We just get bitten.

Saying that, they could do the same could they not? We're not talking about a $/kw here. We're talking about what they get from factory. Anybody can buy the cheaper car and add more to it and have it going faster than the top of the line model.

Just like you could buy an SS and have it going faster than a clubby or gts for less than the cost of the HSV.

If you're buying a HSV just for the power then you're ignorant.

You can get a similar package from walkinshaw anyway... I saw a black clubby in SC last year or 07 it had a 90k price tag with some simialr parts and power, I beleive it retained its warranty.

What could be better, you get pulled over for doing a skid, the police offer a free adjustment, a couple of good whacks later, the reception is far clearer then ever before.

Maybe you are ignorant at my original post.. ?

I am just pointing out an option that is cheaper than the UK one.
That is still covered by warranty if done thru Walkinshaw as whiteknightVR94
    mentioned also.

now go and do your research and see what the Government charges are for Rego and insurance over there.
the car may be cheaper than here but i wouldnt want to be paying the rego and insurance every year.

    yes sir !

It would still be 20k cheaper here than the UK so whats a few hundred dollars either way for insurance here ?

In the UK insurance and rego is alot more for bigger cars discouraging people to buy V8's and to buy small 4cyls instead.

I am only paying $99 a month( insurance) for my car cant see it being to much more for a supercharger......

Also if you were dropping 100k on a car would the cost of insurance really bother you ?
