wow... i have never encountered that sort of smoke anywhere
was just out driving and got passed by a red vy storm. the guy had been fanging it before hand and when he turned right round a corner i noticed his car blew a fair wad of tan/brown smoke. i had to look twice because at first i thought he might have just driven through some sand or dust.
i've seen black/grey/blue/white exhaust before , but i never seen exhuast like this. what would account for that colour?

I see it quite often in newer cars, i always thought it was a cat clean out?

as far as i know this only happens when the top coat of carbon + rust is shifted in the cat convertor and exhaust. Its not the engine, as you would only expect black, blue or white. The Brown probably was not smoke, but rust particles.
Brown smoke is incomplete or irregular combustion.
I would say it's rust. if he boots it a few times you will clears out any rust/cobwebs and most probably find it will drive a lot better as well .![]()
It would be unburnt fuel, depending on the way the light hits it the colour could be brown.
I think my old VP had this smoke. Cat was Toasted burnt out with crap flying out of it..
ecotecs are allways been known to chuff a bit fuel smoke under hard acceleration, i noticed the ecotecs that were on our track day chuffed a bit as they hammering down the straight, ls1's with a tune seem to do it to - depending on the tune,
but yes reddy brown can be from dust being blown out the pipes, more
