If Im not mistaken, all new cars these days have tinted windows, but not the windscreen. These are all withing legal limits within all states...obviously, its only if you go sticking on "other" stuff that makes them darker than the regs allow that will cause problems.....mainly for you and partly for others

lol thats funni, so ur telling me that if i brought a car from sa dealership and teh car had tinted windows from factory i could get defected neither no it has passed all laws stating its roadworthy (dead stock car im ta;lking about as some come with tint) if it not then how can they sell me an un roadworthy car from the dealership:P
As I said before that it is incorrect, you are allowed 70% which is actually the reccomended maximum in some other states as well. SA is different as rather than being a reccomendation, it is the legal limit. Not 35% like the rest of the country. Most new cars will meet that % though.
also its a diff story if the tint is actually in the window it self i cant remember what thats called the bmw's have it though
Hey i have some bad luck that, i got a vk pulled over 3 times in 3 nights and a vl pulled me over 4 a random mobile testing they wanted 2 see my mobile phone as they said i was on it when i wasnt then went over my car popped the boot and hood got defected recked tyres were bold when now so paid $500 for new the same day got defect off by some cop and defect 4 weeks later by a kimba cop for new tyre saying tyres were rubbing i asked were he didnt show me then tryed to rip my drivers seat out and said it was to loose and explain it was for my safety if i was doing 130km on the highway i said why and said 120km i told him no then he repied 110km i told him im on my p's i should be doing 100km now i have to go over the pits.
It's the glass itself which is of a different transparency than usual glass. Makes it legal to have a "tinted" windscreen, and then they can get the windows etc tinted so they have a double whammy of tinting film and the glass itself being tinted. Cheeky ****ers. Pretty sure certain Subaru's have this too.
yeah i didnt mean it was dedicated to bmw's i just know my dads has it lol
I had this happen to me too but I went to the cop shop and got them too look over it after I did all the mods because 1 QLD transport tells ya 1 story saying the lowest chassis point and the cops say the lowest point all together. anyway they said it was legal and got em to write it down on paper and when they tried to defect me i showed them and got off scott freestupid gold coast police.
i've recently been defected in my crappy vn, bald tyres, brake lights not working(blown a fuse when i connected trailer), he was a good cop,
he could have got my for some much, cut springs (no suspension in the back, feel every bump, so it was as low to the ground as you could get a vn), cat gutted(although emissions side of things, was done by previous owner), roof lining is cut, and sagged to a point i can't see out the back, a dvd player that is worth more then the car(which plays movies without handbrake on, as anyone's would! :P), broken mirror
etc, etc.
but he used his own judgment and not the law, that's the reason my car is still on the road (and i am fixing it up each week to get it back alive!) although, I'm enjoying my spool, shift kit for now
btw: he asked whats wrong with my eyes and thought i was on drugs, lucky he didn't drug test me.. jk![]()
ever heard of clear eyes?
lol
just to ad to the lowering issue in QLD;
this is the legislation in Qld;
Ground clearance of
vehicle
The ground clearance of the fully laden vehicle must continue to comply
with the Australian Design Rules (ADRs) and the Transport Operations
(Road Use Management) Regulation 1995 at all times.
The following requirements must be meet:
· The ground clearance must not be less than 100 mm within 1 m of
an axle and the vehicle must clear a peak with a gradient of 1:15 on
each side;
· The suspension travel in the bump or rebound mode must not be
altered by more than one third of that specified by the original
vehicle manufacturer;
· The original manufacturer’s bump stops must not be altered;
· The fitting of drop spindles or similar devices to lower the ground
clearance of the vehicle on the axle assembly is not permitted.
so basically any area of the car must be over 100mm as 1m from either axle covers most of the area under the car. not just the chassis.

Just to add to that, down here in Victoria the rules are that you CAN have your front windscreen tinted. HOWEVER, the light transmittance of the windscreen has to be at LEAST 75%. This may be the same in other states as it is specified in the Australian Design Rules (8/00). More info is avilable in VSI2 on Vicroads website.
However, before you got tinting your windscreen, there is a second catch here, "only windscreens tinted during the manafacturing process are acceptable". So you pretty much have to buy a tinted windscreen!
