In australia its always been Red (Holden) v Blue (Ford). What made you pick Red? Family always had holden , race drivers (Brocky, Skaife etc , you just like the cars?
for me i was brought up with one 'ford' brother and the other was a valiant freak, so as a kid i had fords and valiants as my first passenger experiences but as time went on my ford brother tried his luck with HJ 2 door Monaro 253.
That single car moulded me into a holden man. It was the best looking machine at the time.
when and what moulded you?

There is a reason why Commodore is number 1 since 1979. Its the best Aussie car. I loved my VL and I love my VE. I cant help it.
I dont like changing head gaskets or cracked heads, so I didnt have much of an option but not to choose Ford
Seriously, always been a Holden boy, always loved them, family always owned them growing up. Mum always bought Fords and they did nothing but break down, whilst the holdens just kept going. When I was probably about 7 or 8 I remember seeing some past bathurst footage of a VK, and I was in love. Something about VK's that I love, hence my first car being a VK.
I wasn't into cars before I could drive. Dad insisted I get a VL for my first car. Ever since then Ive been into old school holdens like toranas, kingswoods, old school falcons just muscle cars in general... Im not into anything newer then VNs besides xr6t and VY ss. Everything else is a grannys car to me.
Next car if it wasnt a VL would be a injected 5L VK brocky replica. Toughest looking commodore imo.
And then a

VYSS
XR6T

HQ's are cool cars, The monaro's more so. I love the Torana's.
Not a real fan of the commo' after the VK up untill the VY. But I'd own any of them over any ford made after the XD.
First drove a SVZ Commodore for 3 weeks as a rented car in NZ...it was a 2 day old car (had 70kms on the clock) and I fell in love. Tried a couple of XR6s but didn't like the "light" or "zippy" feel. I felt the commy was more stable and handled better. So, my first car had to be a RED!

im neither one or the other, i drive the best deal at the time. i guess i have a bit more of a soft spot for holden.ive owned 2 fords and two holdens. all of them had good and bad points. ( i have to say my favourite was my XD spack manual - took a beating and nothing ever went wrong. great fun to drive even if it did steer like a boat. nicest car to drive is the VY. love takin out on weekends but the clutch is feelin spongy at the moment. what made me buy a holden this time round? - 5.7lts with a manual behind it. why wouldnt you!
I don't look at it like that at all (brand loyalty). The reason I chose the VS was for the simple fact that in my massive car comparison to find the best first car it came out on top with the most positive points. I compared cars using the following measurements:
- Price: Had to be around or under $5000
- Engine: Must have been at least six cylinders
- Drive: RWD was a bonus but I did consider FWD cars too
- Availability of parts: This was an epic win for the Commodore (versus the Japanese cars) for both replacement and upgrading
- Doors: Had to have at least four (for a family - I also considered a few hatchbacks)
- Age: Had to be at least 90s, for the price a VS was the newest I could get
- Community: This was important, the car couldn't be so obscure that I couldn't network with any other owners or people in the know (plus I used to be a member here long ago)
- Looks: Couldn't be fugly
- Reliability: Don't want it breaking all the time
I can't really answer this question. It's just that Holdens have something that Fords lack.
My family was holden mad growing up. Toranas, commodores, panelvans, wb utes etc. so it was always going to rub off. I'm not totally against the blue oval. Used to have a xf ute and it was an excellent work ute.
I think dads always been a Holden man because of what his family had. I guess if mum chose it, it would have been a ford.
I'm a holden man currently because when I turned 18 a guy at work offered me a car for 6 grand. I had 4 grand saved and mum and dad said they'd fork out the rest if I paid them back. At the time it shat all over most of my friends cars, because it had fresh paint and a 3l engine. I grabbed it and ruined it.
And then I got another one because I liked them. But leaving soon because I don't like any of the newer models enough to keep me around.
im a holden guy but respect is given where respect is due im not really that biased as long as it's not anything between xd-ba they were the ugliest bunch of car's on the face of the earth tbh ive driven both make's and the holden just felt so much more refined and complete
Eureka styles!
i know that some holden motors havnt been the best, but a lot are sensational. i resent the fact that ford has been 'fine tuning' the 6 for 40 years and it still blows head gaskets. dont they have any pride.....

My family grew up with both Holdens and fords but i always felt the commys where more comfortable and better/classier build compared to the fords but im not biased i don't mind some models of ford, but my father in law is a ford man and when he,s around well then it's on![]()

lol I haven't picked red, I'm not a fanatical holden loyalist like a lot of people here. We have both a holden and ford, our ford is red, holden is blue haha. If I had the money to go out and buy another car now it would be sporting a blue oval![]()
Had a few reasons going why I sided with red, though I'm not fully biased to red.
Me grandfather had ford telstar tx5 (after I googled it), me old man had ford carnival (was told that its a sedan) but he never told me that prior to me siding with the red. Me family at the time never had Aussie branded cars (no, toyota, mitsubishi, etc are not counted imo) and they still don't.
I? well I saw a nice looking car on the road when I was much younger, never knew what make/model it was (which of course later turned out to be much the same vehicle as I got now with a few differences) but I know I had to buy one because it looked so d*mn hot. I recall me old man used to say never buy Aussie branded cars because they look stupidly big (talk about Camry nowadays...) and other members of the family had a beef or two about them. I didn't really care, my heart was set on this very car (along with a list of others for both fortunate/unfortunate reasons).
Also as a kid, me family went to stateside to visit me aunt. Her ex-husband (they were married once I believe) had I think it was a C3 corvette. I quite liked it even though it was small, I also recall having an artist (forgot what they're called) drawn a picture of me driving fast with a convertible corvette. Of course this has little relevance but heck, its sort of the other thing that now GM|H have their engines moreso based on.
I've been much raving about it when things for me started looking brighter and well now I know what it is and I've got itNothing much mattered to me, even though me old lady's boyfriend seems to side the blue moreso than the red. There are a few cars on the blue side that are nice but I'd say I've already sided with the red afterall, VR/VS was the one that stole my attention.
As for the record when I first saw it I think it was a white VR commodore sedan. Not sure which level (Acclaim, Executive, Berlina, etc). It looked nicer imo than EF (EL had a revised front bumper and of course no longer looked like EF). I also once used to say to people to not go for the looks but for functionality/practicality... well I fell into my own newly dug gravebut I don't really care. I'm happy and that's all that matters.
(edit) no offense but AU's look butt ugly.. VT-VX of that era looked much better(/edit)

dad was a mechanic and had some mad old torana's and hq's.
rubbed off and me and now i just am in love with holdens.
except dad just bought a BA ford wagon on gas for work because it has more room then a VZ wagon.....
drives alright i guess, don't have a VZ wagon to compare it to!
but i shall never own a ford.
i have a vz wagon, and i work on thousands of au-bf111 wagons, i can honestly say slap yo' father in the face lol, vz wagons are so much more practical in so many ways its not funny
im not tied to any side, in fact i was the black sheep of the family for a while when i was younger caused i liked ford more - mainly because of ef fairmonts lol, i also just had to have a ford key-ring at that time to haha

as a youngster looking out the window of my parents tarago it was obvious that most fords had parts falling off, while the holdens and specially toranas just looked tuff. So i had to be a holden man, tho my grandad was a ford mechanic and he was disgusted.
